Description

The SECURIO AF150 in 1/16" x 5/8" is the high-security member of the AF150 pair: a 1.9 x 15 mm particle cut rated DIN 66399 P-5, fed by a 150-sheet automatic tray. It uses exactly the same cabinet, 9.45-inch throat, 9.2-gallon bin and 610 W drive as the rest of the AF150/AF300 chassis - what you are choosing here is the cutting head. At P-5 it meets the destruction level most privacy policies specify for personal data, while still feeding itself unattended.

Key Features

  • 150-sheet automatic feed tray - load a stack, close the lid, and walk away.
  • P-5 particle cut at 1.9 x 15 mm (28.5 mm²), inside the DIN ceiling of 30 mm².
  • 9.2-gallon (35 l) pull-out bin holds roughly 432 sheets of P-5 waste, close to three full tray-loads.
  • 9.45-inch throat with a separate manual slot for single sheets and credit cards.
  • Approximately 56 dB(A) at idle, quiet enough for an occupied office.
  • Solid steel cutting rollers rated for staples and paper clips and covered by HSM's lifetime roller warranty at P-5.

What's in the Box

The shredder ships assembled on its cabinet with the 9.2-gallon pull-out bin, power cord and operating instructions. Shredder bags are not included. HSM lists part 1661995050 (530 x 340 x 1000 mm, 100 bags per pack) for this chassis; the same bag also fits the SECURIO B22 and B24. Shredder oil is a separate consumable.

Maintenance and Consumables

Budget for two things: bags and oil. HSM lists bag 1661995050 for this chassis, a 100-pack measuring 530 x 340 x 1000 mm that also fits the SECURIO B22, B24, AF300 and AF350 - convenient if you run more than one HSM machine. At roughly 432 sheets per fill you will use a bag every two or three full trays.

Oiling is manual and matters at P-5. Fine particles create a paper dust that builds in the roller teeth, and the first symptom is a machine that used to take seven sheets and now stalls at five. Apply HSM shredder oil across the throat, reverse for a moment, then run waste paper through. Beyond that the machine needs nothing: 610 W on a standard outlet, no cooling downtime for ordinary office use, and a 395 mm-wide cabinet that fits under most worktops.

Who Should Buy This - and Who Should Not

Buy it for a small team - two to five people - that handles genuinely sensitive paper and wants P-5 without paying for a departmental machine. The 150-sheet tray and 432-sheet bin mean the ratio is sensible: you can empty a tray nearly three times before the bin is full, which is a better balance than the larger-tray AF300 achieves.

Do not buy it if your shredding comes in large infrequent batches - a 150-sheet tray means repeated reloading during a file purge, and the SECURIO AF300 doubles the tray for a modest step up in price while keeping the same bin. If your paper is ordinary internal material, the P-4 version of this chassis takes 8-10 sheets manually instead of 6-7 and costs less. And if a policy demands P-6, the SECURIO AF150 1/32" x 7/16" reaches it, at the cost of dropping to 5 sheets a pass and losing the lifetime cutting-roller warranty.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the AF150 and the AF300?

The chassis, throat, bin, motor and cut sizes are identical. The difference is the automatic feed tray: 150 sheets on the AF150, 300 on the AF300. Because both share the same 35-litre bin, the AF150 is actually better balanced for continuous use - you get nearly three tray-loads before emptying, where the AF300 gets about one and a half. Choose the AF300 if you want to load large batches in one go.

Can it shred staples and paper clips?

Yes. HSM rates the AF150 for paper containing staples and paper clips and fits solid steel, induction-hardened cutting rollers. For the automatic tray, avoid thick stapled bundles because the sheet separator can bind on a heavy staple; feed those through the manual slot. Bulldog clips, ring binders, plastic wallets and laminated sheets must be removed before shredding.

Will legal-size paper fit?

Yes. The throat is 9.45 inches (240 mm) wide and US letter and legal are both 8.5 inches across the short edge, so they feed without folding. Tabloid at 11 inches will not fit unfolded and would need to be folded once, which counts against the 6-7 sheet manual capacity. The automatic tray is designed for standard letter and A4 stacks.

How often will the bin need emptying?

HSM rates the 35-litre bin at approximately 432 sheets of P-5 waste, which is just under three full 150-sheet tray-loads. A small team shredding a tray a day would empty it roughly twice a week. Because the particles are small they settle well, so the usable capacity is close to the rated figure rather than filling with air the way strip-cut waste does.

Is this shredder NSA approved?

No. NSA/CSS Specification 02-01 requires a maximum 1 mm x 5 mm particle and requires the specific model to appear on the NSA Evaluated Products List. This is a P-5 machine at 1.9 x 15 mm and it is not listed. A high DIN rating on its own never constitutes NSA approval. For classified material you need a listed P-7 device.

Can it shred CDs or credit cards?

Credit cards, yes - use the manual slot and feed them one at a time. CDs and DVDs, no: this configuration carries E-4, F-2, P-5 and T-5 ratings but no optical media class, so HSM does not list discs among the materials it accepts. If disc destruction matters, look at a model with a published O rating rather than assuming a high P class covers it.

Does it need oiling, and does it have an automatic oiler?

It has no automatic oiler, so oiling is manual. P-5 cutting heads produce fine dust that builds up on the rollers, and periodic oiling with HSM shredder oil keeps capacity from drifting down over time. Apply oil across the width of the throat, run the machine in reverse briefly, then feed a few sheets through. Do not use aerosol lubricants, WD-40 or cooking oil.
