HSM Pure 940 1/4 Inch Strip Cut Document Shredder - HSM2391

The HSM Pure 940 1/4 inch strip cut (HSM2391) is a high-volume P-2 departmental shredder that cuts paper into 1/4 in (5.8 mm) strips and swallows 51-53 sheets in a single pass through a 15.75 in (400 mm) opening. A 1,920 W motor drives it and waste collects in a 43.6-gallon (165-liter) cabinet on castors. It is the throughput model of the Pure 940 family, intended for bulk destruction of routine paper rather than personal data.

Where 51-53 sheets per pass pays off

A full folder can go in at once, and two letter sheets fit side by side in the wide opening. That makes the strip-cut 940 practical for mailroom overflow, superseded print runs, archive purges of non-personal records and other jobs measured in boxes. HSM's range brochure quotes 65-67 sheets on 70 g/m² paper, but the 80 g/m² rating is the one to plan around for standard US office paper.

The limiting factor is the bag. Long 5.8 mm strips stay springy and trap air, so HSM rates the 165-liter cabinet at roughly 816 sheets, less than half of what the same cabinet holds behind the particle-cut heads. Keep spare bags with the machine and swap before the waste presses against the cutting head.

Know the security limits of P-2

P-2 is suitable for internal paperwork with no personal content. The strips run the full page height and could realistically be pieced back together, so HR files, payroll, patient or customer records belong on the P-4 or P-5 Pure 940. Credit cards, CDs/DVDs and floppy disks are accepted, though O-2 and T-2 are coarse media classes.

Installation notes

The cabinet weighs 176.4 lb and needs room in front for the bin to roll out. At 120 V the motor draws close to 16 A, so put it on its own circuit. Oiling is manual and bags are sold separately.

Who the strip-cut 940 suits

Pick it when the volume is high, the content is not personal, and a facilities team can keep up with bag changes. If any of the paper carries personal data, the P-4 Pure 940 is the safer default in the same footprint, giving up only sheets per pass.
