How is this different from the standard Pure 740 with the oiler?
The cutting head is the same 4.5 x 30 mm P-4 unit and the throat is the same 400 mm. The cabinet is not: 240 litres instead of 145, about 2,950 collected sheets instead of 1,860, 1,347 mm tall instead of 889 mm, 76.4 kg instead of 53.6 kg, plus a particle distributor. You are buying bin capacity and reduced handling, not extra security.
Can it shred CDs, credit cards or floppy disks?
No. HSM lists this model's shreddable materials as paper, staples and paper clips, and publishes a bare P-4 paper classification for it rather than the E/F/O/T classes carried by the standard Pure 740. Treat optical discs, cards and magnetic media as out of scope and destroy them another way. This is a genuine difference between the max and the standard chassis, and it is easy to miss.
Two thousand nine hundred sheets - is that realistic?
It is HSM's own published collection figure for the 240 litre bin with this cutting head, and the particle distributor is what makes it attainable. Without waste distribution, a tall bin fills in a cone under the outfeed and trips the full sensor early. In practice expect to be near the figure rather than well short of it.
How many users can share one?
Fifteen to thirty in a normal office environment. The machine is built for continuous operation rather than a short duty cycle, so the practical limits are queueing at peak times and the fortnightly bin change rather than anything thermal. At 20 to 22 sheets a pass it clears a full recycling tray quickly, and the 2,950-sheet bin means the machine is almost never out of service waiting for someone to fetch a bag.
What is the difference between the P-4 and P-5 versions of the 740 max?
Only the cutting head, and what follows from it. The P-5 version cuts 1.9 x 15 mm particles at 14 to 15 sheets a pass with about 3,050 sheets per bin; this P-4 version cuts 4.5 x 30 mm at 20 to 22 sheets with about 2,950 per bin. Cabinet, throat, motor, oiler and footprint are identical. Choose on what your records policy requires, not on the price difference.
Will it fit through a standard doorway?
The cabinet is 670 mm wide, so a standard 762 mm interior door is fine, but it is 784 mm deep and 1,347 mm tall, so plan the route including corners and any lift. It is on castors, but at 76.4 kg this is a two-person move rather than something you push around casually.
