HSM Pure 740 max 1/16 x 5/8 with External Automatic Oiler - HSM2372M

The Pure 740 max 1.9 x 15 mm is the highest-security machine in this range and the only one here that reaches DIN 66399 P-5. Its particles are 28.5 mm2, against the 30 mm2 ceiling P-5 allows - a genuinely fine micro-cut, and a very different proposition from the 135 mm2 P-4 particles the rest of the Pure family produces.

The 'max' in the name is the cabinet. Two hundred and forty litres of bin holding roughly 3,050 shredded sheets, on a 1,347 mm tall chassis with an external automatic oiler fitted as standard. HSM built this configuration for organisations that need P-5 and cannot afford to be emptying a bin twice a day to get it.

• 400 mm feed opening. Full width despite the fine cut, so oversized and mixed paper still goes in unfolded.
• Particle distributor. Spreads waste across the bin instead of letting it pile under the outfeed, which is what lets a 240 litre bin actually reach its rated 3,050 sheets.
• Approximately 56 dB(A) at idle. The same acoustic figure as the standard 740, on a 700 W motor.

Waste bags are not included; the bin takes a 240 litre liner, which is a larger bag than the rest of the Pure range uses - do not assume your existing 145 litre stock will fit. Order HSM cutting-roller oil with the machine.

Who Should Buy This — and Who Should Not

Buy this if a written policy specifies P-5 and the machine has to serve a team rather than one desk. Legal, finance, healthcare administration and R&D records are the usual drivers. The combination of a genuine P-5 cut, a 400 mm throat, a fitted oiler and a bin that holds 3,050 sheets is unusual; most P-5 machines force you to choose between security and bin size.

Do not buy it for general office paper. Fourteen to fifteen sheets a pass is slow, and you are paying for security you do not need - the Pure 740 4.5 x 30 mm handles 21 to 22 sheets at P-4 for less money. Do not buy it if you need to destroy optical discs or magnetic media either: HSM lists this machine's shreddable materials as paper, staples and paper clips only, with no O or T classification, so discs and drives need separate provision. And do not buy it expecting it to fit a small room - at 784 mm deep and 1,347 mm tall it is a substantially bigger object than the standard Pure 740.
