The HSM Pure 740 strip cut is a large floor shredder that slices paper into 5.8 mm strips at DIN 66399 P-2, with a 15.75 in (400 mm) feed opening and a capacity of 35-37 sheets per pass. Backed by a 700 W motor and a 38.3-gallon (145-liter) bin, it is a bulk-destruction machine for mailrooms, print rooms and archive clear-outs where the paper is routine.

What a 400 mm opening does in a mailroom

A wide slot has two practical payoffs. First, people can drop in a loose handful without squaring it, which keeps a shared machine moving. Second, wide-format printouts, folded plans and fanfold continuous stationery fit without being torn down first. Know what P-2 covers

The 5.8 mm strip, marketed as 1/4 in and closer to 0.228 in, is a general-document classification. That suits internal printouts, envelopes, old forms and other paper you just do not want leaving the building intact. It is not a defensible control for records that identify people, where policies usually expect P-4. CDs, DVDs, credit cards and floppy disks are inside its rating, as are staples and paper clips.

Bin and upkeep

Strip waste is bulky, so the 145-liter bin takes about 1,085 sheets; a busy mailroom may empty it every day or two. The cabinet rolls on castors and comes with a collecting-bag frame; bags are not supplied, so buy 145-liter liners. No oiler is fitted, and although strip heads need less oil than particle heads, periodic lubrication still helps. The induction-hardened steel rollers carry HSM's lifetime warranty.
