Description

This is the HSM Pure 630 with the maintenance problem engineered out of it. The 4.5 x 30 mm P-4 cutting head, the 310 mm feed opening, the 130 litre bin and the 700 W motor are all identical to the standard 630; what is added is an external automatic oiler that doses the cutting rollers on its own schedule.

That matters more than it sounds. A particle-cut head run without oil loses sheet capacity gradually and then jams, and by the time an office notices, the machine that was rated for 22 sheets is struggling with twelve. The oiler is not a convenience feature, it is the difference between a shredder that performs to specification in year four and one that does not.

Key Features

  • Externally mounted automatic oiler. The pump and reservoir sit outside the cabinet, so checking the level and refilling do not require access to the cutting head or a service call.
  • Identical P-4 cut to the standard 630. 4.5 x 30 mm particles, 135 mm2, classification E-3|F-1|O-3|P-4|T-4. Adding the oiler changes nothing about the security rating.
  • 20 to 22 sheets at 80 g/m2, sustained. The point of the oiler is that this figure stays true. Unoiled particle-cut heads drift downwards; this one does not.
  • 130 litre bin, about 1,590 shredded sheets. Weekly emptying for a department shredding a few hundred pages a day.
  • Full-bin shutoff and overload protection. The machine stops when the bin is full and reverses the rollers when the feed is overloaded, rather than forcing waste back through the head.
  • Lifetime warranty on the cutting rollers. P-4 sits inside HSM's P-2 to P-5 coverage band for the induction-hardened solid steel rollers.

What's in the Box

Floor cabinet on castors, collecting bag frame, external automatic oiler fitted, power lead. Waste bags are not included - the bin takes a 130 litre liner. The oiler consumes HSM cutting-roller oil; order a supply with the machine so the reservoir is not run dry in the first months, which would defeat the purpose of buying this version.

Who Should Buy This — and Who Should Not

Buy this version if the shredder is shared. Shared machines are exactly the ones nobody oils, because responsibility for them is diffuse. A department of six to ten people running a P-4 policy is the textbook case for an automatic oiler, and the price difference over the standard 630 is small against the cost of a cutting head that has been run dry for two years.

Skip it if one person owns the machine and will genuinely oil it at every bin change - the standard Pure 630 does the same work for less. Skip it too if you need a wider feed opening, where the Pure 740 with external automatic oiler gives you 400 mm and 145 litres, or if you need P-5, where the Pure 740 max 1.9 x 15 mm is the oiled option in this family.

Frequently Asked Questions

What exactly does the automatic oiler do?

It pumps a metered dose of cutting-roller oil onto the head at intervals during operation, from a reservoir mounted on the outside of the cabinet. It replaces the manual routine of running an oiled sheet through the throat every bin change. You still have to keep the reservoir topped up, but that is a two-minute job you do a few times a year rather than a task tied to every bin change.

Is the security rating any different from the standard Pure 630?

No. The cutting head is the same 4.5 x 30 mm particle cut, with the same E-3|F-1|O-3|P-4|T-4 classification and the same 135 mm2 particle area against the 160 mm2 ceiling DIN 66399 sets for P-4. The oiler affects durability and sustained throughput, not the security class. If a compliance auditor asks which DIN class the machine meets, the answer is identical for both versions of the Pure 630 particle cut.

What oil does it take?

HSM cutting-roller oil, supplied for shredder use. Do not substitute general-purpose machine oil, WD-40 or vegetable oil - the wrong viscosity either fails to reach the roller surfaces or gums up as it collects paper dust, and using it gives HSM a straightforward reason to decline a roller warranty claim.

Can I retrofit this oiler to a standard Pure 630 I already own?

We have not been able to confirm a retrofit kit part number from HSM for the Pure 630, so treat the answer as no unless your dealer tells you otherwise in writing. Buying the oiler version up front is the reliable route.

How often will the bin need emptying?

About 1,590 shredded sheets fill the 130 litre bin, which is HSM's own collection figure for this cutting head. A department destroying 300 pages a day fills it roughly weekly. The machine stops itself when the bin is full, so an unnoticed overflow is not a failure mode here - you get a shredder that has stopped, not a mess on the floor. Particle-cut waste settles densely, which is why this bin lasts noticeably longer than the same bin on a strip-cut machine.

Does it shred CDs and credit cards?

Yes - the head is classified O-3 for optical media and T-4 for magnetic carriers alongside P-4 for paper. Feed discs and cards individually rather than mixed into a paper stack. High volumes of optical media will wear the rollers faster than paper, so if you destroy discs by the hundred, a dedicated media destroyer is a better investment.
