Description

The HSM Pure 530 with the external automatic oiler is the smallest machine in HSM's floor-standing Pure range, and the oiler is the entire reason to choose this version over the plain 2353113. A pump mounted on the outside of the cabinet doses the cutting rollers on a schedule instead of leaving it to whoever remembers, which is what keeps a particle-cut head at its rated 14 to 16 sheet bite rather than letting paper dust and adhesive residue quietly erode it.

Underneath the oiler it is a standard Pure 530: a 300 mm feed opening, an 80 litre bin, a 610 W motor and a 4.5 x 30 mm particle cut rated DIN 66399 P-4. At 29.5 kg it is roughly half the weight of the Pure 630 and a third of the Pure 830, so it is the one machine here that a single person can move without help.

Key Features

  • External automatic oiler. Mounted outside the cabinet, so refilling and inspection do not mean opening the cutting head. Cutting-roller lubrication is the single most common cause of lost sheet capacity on particle-cut shredders; this removes it from the office chore list.
  • 4.5 x 30 mm particle cut, genuinely P-4. 135 mm2 per particle against the 160 mm2 ceiling DIN 66399 sets for P-4. That is inside the limit with margin, not on the edge of it.
  • Handles more than paper. HSM classes this cutting head E-3|F-1|O-3|P-4|T-4, so staples, paper clips, credit cards and optical discs are all within specification. Feed discs one at a time.
  • 978 shredded sheets per bin fill. HSM's own collection figure for the 80 litre bin with the 4.5 x 30 mm head. Particle cut packs roughly twice as densely as strip cut, which is why the bin lasts as long as it does.
  • Quiet enough to sit in the room. Approximately 55 dB(A) at idle. This is a machine designed to live beside desks rather than in a service corridor.
  • Automatic start/stop and standby. The feed sensor starts the rollers when paper enters and drops the machine into standby when it is idle.

What's in the Box

The shredder arrives assembled on castors with the external automatic oiler fitted and its power lead. Waste bags are not supplied with the machine; the bin takes an 80 litre liner, so budget for a bag roll with your first order. We have not been able to confirm from HSM whether a starter bottle of cutting-roller oil ships in the carton, so assume it does not and order oil alongside the shredder.

Who Should Buy This — and Who Should Not

Buy the Pure 530 with the oiler if one person or a small team of three or four destroys a few hundred pages a day to a P-4 policy and nobody in that team is going to remember to oil a shredder. The oiler pays for itself in retained sheet capacity within a year of that pattern.

Do not buy it if the machine will be shared by a whole floor. Fourteen to sixteen sheets and an 80 litre bin mean queueing and frequent emptying at departmental volumes; the HSM Pure 630 gives you the same 4.5 x 30 mm P-4 cut with 20 to 22 sheets and a 130 litre bin, and the Pure 740 pushes the feed opening out to 400 mm. Do not buy it if your policy requires P-5 either. HSM builds the Pure 530 chassis with a 1.9 x 15 mm P-5 head, but that variant is not offered with the external oiler in the US line-up, so a P-5 requirement pushes you to the Pure 740 max or the Pure 830.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the external oiler mean I never touch the shredder?

No. The oiler handles cutting-roller lubrication on a schedule, which is the maintenance task most offices skip. You still empty the bin, clear the occasional jam and top up the oiler reservoir. What you stop doing is feeding oiled sheets through the throat every few bin changes, and you stop losing sheet capacity when someone forgets.

Can it shred CDs and credit cards?

Yes. HSM classifies this cutting head E-3|F-1|O-3|P-4|T-4, which covers optical media, cards and magnetic carriers as well as paper. Feed discs and cards one at a time down the middle of the throat rather than mixed into a stack of paper, and do not follow a disc immediately with a thick sheaf while fragments are still clearing.

How often will I be emptying the bin?

HSM rates the 80 litre bin at roughly 978 shredded sheets with the 4.5 x 30 mm head. In practice an office that shreds 200 pages a day empties it about once a week. Particle cut packs about twice as densely as strip cut, so the same bin on a strip-cut Pure would fill far faster.

Will legal-size or A4 paper fit?

Yes. The feed opening is 300 mm, which takes US letter (216 mm) and A4 (210 mm) fed portrait with room to spare, and legal-size (216 mm wide) as well since legal is longer, not wider. Ledger or A3 will not fit unless folded.

Is this NSA approved?

No, and it does not claim to be. NSA/CSS 02-01 requires a maximum 1 mm x 5 mm particle and a listing on the NSA Evaluated Products List. This machine produces 4.5 x 30 mm particles, which is P-4 under DIN 66399 - appropriate for ordinary confidential business records, not for classified national security material.

What is actually covered by the lifetime warranty?

The induction-hardened solid steel cutting rollers carry HSM's lifetime warranty. That covers the cutting head itself, not the motor, electronics, oiler pump or cabinet, which are covered by the standard machine warranty period. HSM's roller warranty applies across P-2 to P-5 cuts, so this P-4 machine qualifies in full.

How does it compare to the Pure 630 with the oiler?

Same 4.5 x 30 mm P-4 cut, different chassis. The 630 gives you 20 to 22 sheets instead of 14 to 16, a 310 mm feed instead of 300 mm, and a 130 litre bin instead of 80 litres, at 47.6 kg instead of 29.5 kg. If your daily volume is genuinely small, the 530 is the cheaper and far more movable machine. If two or more people share it, the 630 is the better fit.
