Description

This is the fast P425. Same 425 mm intake and same 20 mm infeed height as the single-phase machine, but a 3.8 kW three-phase motor instead of a 1,870 W single-phase one, and a rated throughput of up to 120 kg of cardboard per hour instead of 80. You buy it when a packing operation is waiting on the padding machine rather than the other way round.

The cost of that is an electrical installation. It needs a 208 V three-phase supply hard-wired by an electrician, which has to be in place before the machine arrives. If that is not available at the site, the single-phase P425 does the same job more slowly on an ordinary socket.

HSM does not publish a noise figure for the three-phase P425. The single-phase machine on the same chassis is rated at approximately 60 to 62 dB(A); we have not seen a measured figure for this motor and are not going to quote one by analogy.

What's in the Box

The machine on its own, in the plain three-phase configuration. The dust-extraction adapter set is not included with this article — that is a separate P425 configuration, and the HSM DE 1-8 extractor unit is a separate product again. The 208 V three-phase connection is site work and is not supplied.

Who Should Buy This — and Who Should Not

This is the configuration for a real packing operation: multiple dispatch benches, cardboard arriving faster than one person can process it, and a machine expected to run for most of a shift. At 120 kg/h it will keep several packers supplied with cushioning mat and still absorb the incoming carton waste, which is the point at which a padding machine stops being a nice idea and starts replacing a purchased consumable line.

Do not specify it if the site has no three-phase power. The wiring is not optional and it is not trivially retrofitted in a leased unit — in that case buy the single-phase P425, accept 80 kg/h and plug it in. Equally, if the machine will run for twenty minutes a day, the extra motor is wasted; the benchtop ProfiPack C400 covers a single bench at 50 kg/h for a fraction of the outlay.

If dust control matters — a cleanroom-adjacent packing area, food or medical goods, or simply a manager who does not want cardboard fibre settling on stock — order the P425 supplied with the dust-extraction adapter set instead of this one. It is the same machine and the same 3.8 kW motor, plus the connection hardware.

And if the goods you ship are irregular enough that mats do not wrap them cleanly, the ProfiPack ecoChip makes loose cardboard chips instead of sheets, which pour into voids the way loose fill does.

What supply does this need?

208 V three-phase at 60 Hz, feeding a 3.8 kW motor. That is a hard-wired connection installed by an electrician, and it needs to exist before delivery. There is no plug-in option and no transformer supplied. If your site is single-phase only, the single-phase P425 is the same machine with a 1,870 W motor and a lower 80 kg/h throughput, and it plugs into an ordinary socket.

Is 120 kg/h really 50 percent more useful than 80 kg/h?

It depends entirely on how continuously the machine is fed. If one operator loads it between packing jobs, both versions will spend most of the day idle and the difference is invisible. If cardboard is stacked next to the machine and someone works through it, the three-phase motor holds its speed through thicker multi-layer feeds where the single-phase one slows. Buy on how the machine will actually be used, not on the headline number.

Does this article include the dust extraction kit?

No. This is the plain three-phase configuration. HSM sells a separate P425 article that comes with the adapter set for dust extraction, and that article weighs 186 kg against this one's 181 kg. The HSM DE 1-8 extractor unit itself is a separate purchase in either case. If you want extraction, order the adapter-set version rather than planning to add it afterwards.

What is the maximum cardboard it will take?

Up to three layers, or 20 mm of infeed height, across a 425 mm intake. In practice that covers standard single and double-wall carton stock, including folded panels that have not been fully opened out. Very heavy triple-wall board and cartons with plastic laminate or heavy tape residue are outside what HSM rates the machine for and will shorten roller life.

What does it cost to run?

Electricity, and nothing else. The P425 has no consumables: no bags, no oil, no strapping, no cartridges. The input is cardboard you have already paid to receive and would otherwise pay to have taken away, and the output replaces bought void fill. The running cost is a 3.8 kW motor for however many hours a week it is actually cutting.
