The HSM ProfiPack P425 Three-phase current Standard is the high-output version of HSM's floor-standing cardboard padding machine, built around a 3.8 kW motor on a 208 V / 60 Hz three-phase supply. It converts single- and double-wall cartons, up to three layers or 20 mm (0.8 in) at a time, into multi-layer cushioning mat at up to 120 kg (265 lb) per hour. It is the choice for packing operations where several benches draw padding from one machine for most of a shift.

What the bigger motor buys you

Compared with the single-phase P425 on the same chassis, this machine doubles the drive power, from 1,870 W to 3.8 kW, and lifts rated output from 80 to 120 kg an hour. The headline figure only matters if the machine is fed continuously. Where an operator works through a stack of incoming cartons, the extra torque keeps the rollers at speed through thick, multi-layer feeds, so consistent multi-layer mats become routine rather than occasional. If the machine will only run in short bursts between packing jobs, both versions spend most of the day idle and the single-phase unit is the sensible spend.

Electrical work to plan before delivery

There is no plug-in option. The 208 V three-phase connection has to be installed by an electrician and is not supplied with the machine, so arrange it before the unit arrives; in a leased unit without three-phase power, that may rule this version out. The frame weighs 181 kg (399 lb), 21 kg more than the single-phase model because of the heavier motor and gearing, so it stays put once positioned.

Rollers, mats and running costs

Induction-hardened solid steel rollers perforate and cut the board, coping with the staples and grit that come with used cartons. Output is a perforated multi-layer mat that wraps around goods or lines a carton. Running cost is electricity alone: no bags, oil, strapping or cartridges.

Who should order the three-phase P425

It suits fulfilment centers and dispatch departments with several packers, a steady flow of incoming cartons and a machine expected to run for much of the day, replacing a bought void-fill line. Skip it if three-phase power is not available, if the machine would only run for a few minutes a day, or if you need dust extraction, which calls for the adapter-set version.
