This is the volume configuration of the SP 5088. A 10.5 × 40–76 mm particle takes 510 to 550 sheets per pass — close to three times what the P-4 version of the same machine manages — and the trade you make for that speed is security: DIN 66399 P-2, which is a general-document level, not a personal-data level.

Read that trade honestly before you buy. P-2 allows particles up to 800 mm² and this cut works out at 798 mm² at its widest, so it sits at the top edge of the band. It is the right specification for archive clearance, packaging, obsolete printed stock and internal commercial paper. It is the wrong specification for anything a data-protection policy touches.

Specifications

Chassis, press, drive and conveyor figures are HSM's published values for the SP 5088 and are identical across every cut in the range. The cut size, security rating and sheet capacity are this variant's own. HSM's current online overview no longer lists the 10.5 mm head, so those three values are carried from the manufacturer record held against this article number.

What's in the Box

Palletised industrial delivery. No packing list is published. Strapping tape, cutting oil and waste bags are consumables bought separately, and freight, rigging and the three-phase connection are quoted separately from the machine.

Who Should Buy This — and Who Should Not

This is the machine for a site whose problem is volume, not confidentiality: a print operation destroying obsolete stock, a warehouse clearing packaging and old picking documentation, a records centre working through non-personal archive at the end of a retention period. Where the paper is genuinely mundane, buying P-4 for it costs you roughly two thirds of your throughput for nothing.

Do not buy it for anything with names and addresses on it. If your stream includes personnel files, patient records, customer data or anything covered by a written retention and destruction policy, the P-4 version at 3.9 × 40 mm is the machine to specify, and the P-3 version at 6 × 40–53 mm sits between the two at 300 to 350 sheets if your policy stops at commercial-confidential.

Also consider whether you need the bigger press at all. The SP 5080 at the same 10.5 mm cut shreds at exactly the same rate, makes an 80 kg bale instead of a 90 kg one, and is 807 mm shorter. Unless the extra 10 kg per bale changes your transport economics, that shorter chassis is usually the easier machine to site.
