HSM Powerline SP 5088 - 1/8 x 1 1/2 Industrial Shredder and Baler

The HSM Powerline SP 5088 with the 5/32 x 1 9/16 in (3.9 x 40 mm) head is an industrial shredder-baler rated DIN 66399 P-4 that shreds 180-200 sheets per pass and compacts the particles in an 85 kN KP 88.1 press into bales of up to 198 lb (90 kg). It is meant for destruction operations that work to a written P-4 policy for personal data and sell their residue by the load.

P-4 destruction, then a transport-friendly bale

The 3.9 x 40 mm particle sits just within the 160 mm² that DIN 66399 allows for P-4, the level that data-protection programs commonly set for HR, patient, customer and financial records. Since the media ratings extend to O-3 and E-3, discs, cards and USB sticks can be destroyed in the same run as the paper under one certificate.

Shredding speed equals the SP 5080 with the same head; the KP 88.1 press is what is different. It makes bales of 500 x 500 mm in section with a length of 400-950 mm, at up to 90 kg, which loads trailers more efficiently than the SP 5080's 800 mm, 80 kg bale. For a business shipping several loads a week, that difference recurs on every collection.

Loading, safety and upkeep

Whole files go onto the conveyor. Staples, paper clips and crumpled paper pass through the induction-hardened solid steel rollers without sorting. The automatic oiler handles roller lubrication, and an emergency stop bar runs across the loading table. The consumables are polyester strapping for the bales, cutting oil for the oiler, and waste bags if residue is collected anywhere outside the press; none are included. Neither are freight, rigging, dust extraction or the three-phase connection.

The SP 5080 at 3.9 x 40 mm gives the same cut and capacity with 80 kg bales in 807 mm less depth and 310 kg less weight; choose it unless bale weight matters to your haulier. The FA 500.3 at 3.9 x 40 mm shreds identically into a 530 litre trolley if you do not bale at all. On the SP 5088 chassis itself, the P-3 head runs 300-350 sheets per pass and the P-2 head 510-550, both for paper without personal data.

Fit and misfit

Suits commercial shredding companies and large records centres with a P-4 policy, a dedicated bay long enough for a 3281 mm machine plus working space, and forklift handling. Misfit for sites without baling economics, for anonymous bulk paper where a coarser head would be faster, and for any contract that specifies P-5, which this head cannot reach. It is also not an NSA-listed device.
