HSM Powerline FA 500.3 - 7/16 x 1 1/2 Industrial Shredder - HSM1992

The HSM Powerline FA 500.3 7/16 x 1 1/2 (HSM1992) is a P-2 conveyor-fed industrial shredder that cuts coarse 10.5 x 40-76 mm particles at 510 to 550 sheets per pass into a 530 liter (140 US gallon) trolley. It is the fastest head HSM fits to the FA 500.3, about five times the per-pass rate of the P-5 version. It is a bulk-disposal machine for large volumes of low-sensitivity paper, not for confidential records.

Understanding the P-2 trade-off

DIN 66399 lets P-2 particles reach 800 mm²; at its smallest, this head produces 420 mm² pieces, large enough to carry whole words and fragments of lines. That is appropriate for superseded forms and manuals, print overruns, obsolete catalogs and expired archive that was never confidential. It is not appropriate for personal, financial, medical, HR or contractual records. For those, the P-4 head (3.9 x 40 mm) is the normal answer and the P-3 head (6 x 40-53 mm) the minimum.

Running a high-volume clearance

The coarse cut puts less load on the rollers, so the drive works comfortably on ordinary paper. Old fanfold computer listings, crumpled paper, staples, paper clips, CDs and DVDs, floppy disks, credit cards and USB sticks are all on HSM's list, so archive boxes rarely need sorting. The constraint at this speed is the collection side: the same 530 L trolley as every FA 500.3 fills faster here, and HSM gives no fill-rate figure, so have someone ready to swap it during long sessions. The lower weight, 177 kg less than the P-5 model, can help on upper floors. An emergency stop bar, LED panel and braked castors are fitted.

Who it suits, and who should look elsewhere

Use it to clear large quantities of non-sensitive paper as fast as possible: print rooms, facilities teams and organizations disposing of expired, low-risk archive. Anyone shredding material that names people, accounts or contracts should choose the P-3 or P-4 head. Sites running at this volume every week should price the SP 5080 baler combination.
