Is P-2 secure enough for confidential paperwork?
No, and we would rather say so before you buy. DIN 66399 P-2 permits particles up to 800 mm2; this cut produces 420 mm2, and pieces that size can carry whole words and part-lines of text. P-2 is intended for material whose loss would be inconvenient rather than damaging. For anything personal, financial, medical or contractual, buy the P-4 version at 3.9 x 40 mm, or the P-3 at 6 x 40-53 mm as a minimum.
Is it really five times faster than the P-5 model?
On HSM's own per-pass figures, yes: 510-550 sheets against 90-100 for the 1.9 x 15 mm version, both measured at 80 g/m2. Sustained throughput in a real destruction room will not scale quite that cleanly, because loading the conveyor and swapping the collection trolley take the same time on both machines. But the cutting head is genuinely the fastest in the range and the difference is large, not marginal.
Will the 530 litre container keep up at that rate?
It is the same 530 litre trolley fitted to every FA 500.3, so at 510-550 sheets a pass you will empty it more often than a slower machine would. HSM does not publish a fill rate and it varies too much with paper type to estimate honestly. If you are running long clearance sessions, plan for someone to be available to swap the trolley, or look at the SP 5080 baler combination instead.
Why is this model lighter than the other FA 500.3 versions?
883 kg here against 905 kg for the P-3 and P-4 and 1060 kg for the P-5. The coarser cutting head has fewer cutting elements and less mass in the roller assembly. It is a small difference against the P-3 and P-4, but the 177 kg gap to the P-5 is worth checking if you are installing on an upper floor or working within a lift capacity.
Can it take staples, clips and computer listing paper?
Yes. HSM lists paper, continuous and computer listing paper, crumpled paper, staples, paper clips, CDs and DVDs, floppy disks, credit cards and USB sticks. For bulk archive clearance the continuous-listing capability matters: old fanfold printouts are exactly the sort of material this cutting head was designed to move quickly, and they do not need separating from the rest of the box.
What supply does it need, and can we run it from a normal outlet?
No. It is a three-phase machine. HSM's US technical data gives 208 V / 60 Hz for this line, and the European datasheet for the same model lists 400 V / 50 Hz. Connection is not included, so treat it as a separate cost and have the supply confirmed at the intended location before ordering rather than after delivery.
