HSM Powerline FA 500.3 1/8 x 1 1/2 Industrial Shredder - HSM1994

The HSM Powerline FA 500.3 1/8 x 1 1/2 (HSM1994) is a P-4 cross-cut, conveyor-fed industrial shredder that cuts 3.9 x 40 mm particles at 180 to 200 sheets per pass into a 530 liter (140 US gallon) trolley. It is the FA 500.3 most organizations choose when a privacy or data-protection program sets the requirement. It suits central destruction rooms processing patient, employee or customer records in volume.

Why P-4 is the usual target for personal data

Each 156 mm² particle sits just under the 160 mm² ceiling DIN 66399 sets for P-4. Laws such as HIPAA and GLBA do not name a DIN level; they require records to be practically unreadable and impossible to reassemble, and P-4 is where most compliance programs and auditors have settled. A note on the title: 3.9 mm is closer to 5/32 in than 1/8 in, so treat the metric figure as the definitive specification. The E-3, F-1, O-3 and T-4 ratings extend coverage to electronic media, film, optical discs and cards.

Same chassis as P-3, different trade

This head shares the 7.5 kW drive, 905 kg weight, footprint, trolley and conveyor with the P-3 FA 500.3, so the only cost of the higher level is speed: 180 to 200 sheets instead of 300 to 350, roughly 40 percent less. On a belt-fed machine rated for continuous use, that shows up as a longer shredding session rather than a hard limit. Induction-hardened solid steel rollers take staples, paper clips, CDs and DVDs, floppy disks, credit cards and USB sticks. The automatic oiler removes manual lubrication, though its reservoir needs topping up with the correct cutting oil. An emergency stop bar, LED controls and braked castors complete the setup.
