HSM Powerline FA 500.3 - 1/16 x 5/8 Industrial Shredder - HSM1993

The HSM Powerline FA 500.3 1.9 x 15 mm (HSM1993) is a P-5 micro-cut industrial shredder with a 500 mm (19.7 in) conveyor-belt feed, rated at 90 to 100 sheets per pass into a 530 liter (140 US gallon) trolley. It is the only FA 500.3 head that reaches P-5, and HSM gives it a stronger 9.5 kW drive to turn the finer cutters. It is for central destruction rooms whose policy, contract or regulator specifically calls for DIN 66399 P-5.

What the finer head changes

DIN 66399 caps P-5 particles at 30 mm², and this head cuts 28.5 mm², just inside. The E-4, O-4 and T-5 parts of the rating mean optical discs, electronic media such as USB sticks and identity documents are covered at a high level too. The cost is volume. The P-2 head on the identical chassis takes 510 to 550 sheets, so this version runs at roughly a fifth of that. It also needs 2 kW more drive power than the 7.5 kW P-2, P-3 and P-4 versions, and at 1060 kg it is the heaviest member of the family.

How the conveyor feed and trolley work day to day

Operators lay material on the belt and let it carry the load to the cutters, instead of standing at a throat feeding handfuls. Induction-hardened solid steel rollers mean staples and paper clips can stay in; remove ring binders and metal clamps. HSM lists paper, continuous paper, crumpled paper, CDs and DVDs, floppy disks, credit cards and USB sticks as shreddable. An emergency stop bar spans the loading table, the LED panel handles control, and castors with a parking brake let the unit be repositioned. Freight, rigging and the three-phase connection are not part of the machine price.

• FA 500.3 at 3.9 x 40 mm (P-4): 180 to 200 sheets per pass, about double, for most privacy programs.

Who it suits, and who should look elsewhere

Specify it when written rules name P-5, or when health, financial or legal case files demand the lowest practical reconstruction risk at central-station volume. Skip it if P-4 meets your requirements, since you would lose half the throughput. It is not NSA listed and does not meet the 1 x 5 mm NSA/CSS 02-01 particle limit, so it is unsuitable for classified material.
