HSM Powerline FA 400.2 - 1/8 x 1 1/2 Industrial Shredder

The HSM Powerline FA 400.2 with the 1/8 x 1 1/2 in (3.9 x 40 mm) cutting head is a P-4 cross-cut industrial shredder that takes 80 sheets per pass into a 121.5 US gal (460 L) container. It is the most secure of the four heads HSM offers on the FA 400.2 chassis and runs continuously. It is built for central destruction rooms and records departments that shred personal data in bulk.

P-4 particles on an archive-scale chassis

Each 3.9 x 40 mm particle covers 156 mm², just below the 160 mm² limit for P-4. That is the class most privacy policies and auditors accept for patient files, HR records and customer data. The figure comes from HSM's article record; listings that round it to 4 x 40 mm would land exactly on the limit. Compared with the coarser FA 400.2 heads, you trade some speed: this one takes 80 sheets, against 96 for the P-3 head and 144 for the P-1 head. When records identify people, that slower feed is the correct trade.

Built for a shared destruction station

Induction-hardened solid steel rollers accept staples, paper clips and credit cards, so departments can send material without de-stapling it. HSM's material list also includes crumpled paper, continuous computer paper, CDs and diskettes. The integrated oiler lets the operator lubricate the head from the front, and the storage table on top gives waiting stacks a place to sit. The 460 L bin rolls out rather than lifting out, which matters because a full container is heavy. Lockable castors let two people move the machine, and the emergency stop meets the usual requirement for shared rooms.

Imperial values are converted from HSM's metric data. Capacity is rated at 80 g/m²; HSM's brochure quotes 70 g/m² paper and therefore higher counts. Bags and cutting oil are sold separately; ask us for the correct bag before ordering.

• FA 400.2 at 1/4 x 2 in (P-3): 96 sheets per pass, for business records that do not identify individuals.
• FA 400.2 at 1/4 in strip (P-2) and 7/16 in strip (P-1): 104 and 144 sheets, for internal or non-sensitive paper.
• Powerline 450.2 at 2 x 15 mm (P-5): the step up when policy requires P-5, at 28 to 32 sheets and a 290 L bin. The FA 400.2 has no head finer than P-4.
• Powerline FA 500.3 at 3.9 x 40 mm (P-4): the same particle at 180 to 200 sheets for higher volumes.

Who it suits, and who should look elsewhere

Hospitals, insurers, universities, banks and any organization running its own in-house destruction program for personal records fit this machine well. If you need P-4 for only a few hundred sheets a day, a 444 kg three-phase machine is excessive and an office P-4 shredder is the better buy. It is not intended for classified paper.
