HSM Powerline FA 400.2 1/4 Strip Cut Document Shredder - HSM1513

The HSM Powerline FA 400.2 1/4 in strip cut (HSM1513) is a P-2 industrial shredder that slices paper into 5.8 mm strips at up to 104 sheets per pass, feeding a 121.5 US gal (460 L) bin. It sits between the fast P-1 head and the particle-cut heads on the same chassis, adding a security step over P-1 while keeping most of the speed. It is aimed at destruction rooms that handle large volumes of internal, non-personal paperwork.

Where a 5.8 mm strip fits in a security policy

P-2 allows particles up to 800 mm². Halving the strip width compared with the 11.8 mm head breaks most lines of text apart, but the output is still a strip, so a determined effort to rebuild a known page is not impossible. That makes it suitable for commercially sensitive material that does not name people: draft specifications, internal costings, meeting notes, retired procedures and marked-up engineering drawings. Personal data, account details and medical records belong on the P-3 or P-4 head.

Practical points for a 425 kg strip-cut machine

The simpler strip-cut head makes this the lightest member of the FA 400.2 family, which helps when checking floor loading or a freight elevator before delivery. Everything else matches its siblings: induction-hardened solid steel rollers that take staples, paper clips and credit cards, an integrated manual oiler, a storage table on top, lockable castors and an emergency stop. Metric data is HSM's; imperial values are converted. Capacities assume 80 g/m² paper, whereas HSM's brochure uses 70 g/m² and lists larger numbers.

P-2 compared with the other FA 400.2 cuts

• 7/16 in strip (P-1): 144 sheets, for when security does not matter at all.
• 1/4 x 2 in particle (P-3): just eight sheets fewer at 96, and it moves you into the class usually required for confidential business records.
• 1/8 x 1 1/2 in particle (P-4): 80 sheets, the choice once a privacy policy or auditor is involved.

Since the P-3 head costs so little capacity, it is worth asking whether any of your paper is truly confidential before settling on P-2.

Who it suits, and who should look elsewhere

Manufacturers retiring drawing revisions, construction firms clearing old plans, engineering offices and back-office teams disposing of non-personal working papers are good matches. Skip it for customer, employee, patient or financial account records. Like every FA 400.2, it needs a dedicated room rather than an open office: it is 1568 mm deep, three-phase and noisy enough to disturb nearby desks.
