Description

Sixty-five US gallons and a 250 lb paper rating make this the workhorse of HSM’s collection range — the size most often specified when one cart has to serve a floor rather than a room. It is two feet wider in footprint than the 32-gallon model but takes twice the paper before anyone has to move it.

Compatible Models

This is a general-purpose secure collection cart, not a machine-specific waste bin. It does not attach to a shredder and it is not sized to a particular HSM cabinet, so it works with any shredder or shredding service you use. Its job is the stage before destruction: collecting confidential paper securely at the point it is generated, then rolling it to the machine.

Paper goes in through a narrow slot that admits sheets but not hands, and a hasp is moulded into the body so the lid can be padlocked. HSM does not list a padlock as included — assume you are supplying your own standard shackle padlock, and confirm at order if that matters to you. No liner bag is supplied either.

This is the right cart for a floor-level or departmental collection point that gets emptied weekly or fortnightly. Be honest with yourself about the weight: 250 lb of paper on two wheels is a firm pull on hard floors and hard work on carpet, and it is not a one-person job on a ramp. If your route to the shredder involves slopes or thick carpet, the 32-gallon (1070070170) moved twice as often is genuinely easier on staff. If a single cart has to serve an entire building, step up to the 95-gallon (1070070190).

Frequently Asked Questions

How much paper does it hold?

HSM rates it at 65 US gallons and up to 250 lb of paper — about 113 kg. The weight figure is the one that matters when you are deciding who empties it and how often, because flat-stacked confidential paper reaches the weight limit at roughly the same time it reaches the volume limit. Treat 250 lb as the point at which the cart becomes awkward to move on carpet, not just full.

Does it come with a padlock?

The hasp is moulded into the cart, but HSM's published specification does not list a padlock as supplied and we are not going to claim one is in the box. Budget for a standard shackle padlock, or better, key the cart into whatever padlock system your facilities team already runs so keys do not proliferate. Retailer listings vary on this point, which is exactly why it is worth confirming when you order.

Can someone reach inside and take documents out?

Not easily. The intake is a thin slot sized to pass sheets of paper and little else, and with the lid padlocked through the hasp the only route to the contents is through that slot. That is the standard level of protection for a pre-shred collection container: it defeats casual retrieval and opportunism, which is what most data-protection policies are actually written against. It is not a safe and should not be treated as one.

Is it a two-person job to move when full?

At 250 lb of paper, on hard flat flooring, one person can manage it because the cart tips and pulls rather than being pushed dead weight. On carpet, up a ramp or over a lift threshold, treat it as a two-person job. This is the practical reason many sites buy two 32-gallon carts instead of one 65-gallon: the total capacity is similar and nobody has to move 250 lb.

What is the difference between this and the light grey 24-gallon ShredVANTAGE console?

They solve different problems. This is a wheeled 65-gallon cart with a hasp and a paper slot, meant to be filled at a collection point and rolled to the shredder. The ShredVANTAGE console (1070070120) is a 24-gallon static plastic console with a slam lock, sized to stand in a reception area or corridor and look like furniture. Do not size one from the other's capacity figure.
