Description

The 32-gallon cart is the entry point into HSM’s wheeled collection range: 121 litres of lockable, mobile storage in a body just under 20 inches wide, which is the narrowest of the three and the only one that reliably clears a tight office doorway at full load.

Compatible Models

This is a general-purpose secure collection cart, not a machine-specific waste bin. It does not attach to a shredder and it is not sized to a particular HSM cabinet, so it works with any shredder or shredding service you use. Its job is the stage before destruction: collecting confidential paper securely at the point it is generated, then rolling it to the machine.

Paper goes in through a narrow slot that admits sheets but not hands, and a hasp is moulded into the body so the lid can be padlocked. HSM does not list a padlock as included — assume you are supplying your own standard shackle padlock, and confirm at order if that matters to you. No liner bag is supplied either.

Choose the 32-gallon if the cart has to move through normal office doors and be handled by one person — 125 lb of paper is manageable, and 19.6 inches of width gets through almost anything. If it will serve a whole floor and only gets emptied weekly, you will find it small: the 65-gallon (1070070180) doubles the capacity for five and a half inches more width, and the 95-gallon (1070070190) doubles it again. If the cart never moves at all, a fixed 30-inch lockable bin (1070070220) costs less and takes up half the floor.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much paper does it hold?

HSM rates it at 32 US gallons and up to 125 lb of paper — about 57 kg. The weight figure is the one that matters when you are deciding who empties it and how often, because flat-stacked confidential paper reaches the weight limit at roughly the same time it reaches the volume limit. Treat 125 lb as the point at which the cart becomes awkward to move on carpet, not just full.

Does it come with a padlock?

The hasp is moulded into the cart, but HSM's published specification does not list a padlock as supplied and we are not going to claim one is in the box. Budget for a standard shackle padlock, or better, key the cart into whatever padlock system your facilities team already runs so keys do not proliferate. Retailer listings vary on this point, which is exactly why it is worth confirming when you order.

Can someone reach inside and take documents out?

Not easily. The intake is a thin slot sized to pass sheets of paper and little else, and with the lid padlocked through the hasp the only route to the contents is through that slot. That is the standard level of protection for a pre-shred collection container: it defeats casual retrieval and opportunism, which is what most data-protection policies are actually written against. It is not a safe and should not be treated as one.

Is this big enough for a whole department?

For a department of ten to twenty people generating routine confidential paper, 32 US gallons emptied weekly is about right. Beyond that you will be emptying it twice a week, which is when people start leaving paper beside the cart rather than posting it. If that is your situation, the 65-gallon 1070070180 is the better buy — it costs more but it changes the emptying schedule from twice weekly to fortnightly.

Will it fit under a table or next to a copier?

It stands 36.5 inches tall, so it will not go under a standard 29-inch desk or a 36-inch counter. It is designed to stand freely beside a copier, in a mail room or at the end of a bank of desks. Its footprint is 19.6 by 22.5 inches, roughly the same floor area as a two-drawer filing cabinet.
