MBM DSH0503L 4005 super micro-cut 1/32" x 3/16" (.8 x 5 mm)

The MBM DSH0503L is the Destroyit 4005 with a super micro-cut head, producing 1/32 x 3/16 in (0.8 x 5 mm) particles that meet DIN 66399 P-7. Thanks to the 4005's 2.12 hp motor it handles 10 to 12 sheets per pass, the highest P-7 rating in MBM's single-phase 115 V lineup. It is meant for secure rooms where a P-7 rule applies to a steady, sizable stream of paper.

Where the extra power goes

P-7 cutting is about torque. Every page has to be sliced into thousands of tiny pieces, and that is what limits throughput on smaller cabinets. The 4005 chassis carries a heavier 2.12 hp drive, which lets this model take a couple more sheets per pass than the 4003 version of the same cut. Over a day of sustained feeding, those extra sheets add up to noticeably less time standing at the machine.

The trade-off is installation. The DSH0503L needs its own 20 amp, 115 V line, so check with facilities before it arrives, and plan the route for a machine shipping at 390 lb.

Keeping a P-7 head healthy

MBM's manual calls for oiling the cutting unit every time the container is emptied, or whenever cutting slows, using dedicated shredder oil spread across the full width of the shafts. Do not feed paper clips or optical media; MBM excludes them from super micro-cut models, and we would remove heavy fasteners as well. Shafts on this cut are warranted for 1 year, unlike the lifetime cover on standard Destroyit cross-cut shafts. Disposable bags are not supplied, and the 44-gallon bin can run with or without a liner. Dense P-7 waste means it fills slowly.

The 10-12 sheet figure is measured on 70 gsm paper; MBM says real-world throughput can be as low as half the theoretical capacity.

• MBM DSH0397O 4003 super micro-cut: the same P-7 particle, 16 in throat and 44-gallon bin, at 8-9 sheets with a 1.75 hp motor and no dedicated line needed.

Who the 4005 P-7 is for

It is the right tool for contractors, research groups, legal teams and agencies that must meet P-7 and shred enough each week to feel the difference a couple of extra sheets per pass makes. It is a poor fit for general office shredding, for sites without a spare 20 amp circuit, or for anyone who needs to destroy cards and discs in the same machine.
