Description

The Destroyit 2604 DSH0362L is the everyday configuration of MBM’s smallest floor-standing office shredder: a P-4 cross-cut machine that takes 23 to 25 sheets per pass through a 10.25-inch throat and drops the shred into a 26-gallon bin. Within the 2604 range it is the security-versus-speed compromise most offices actually want — the 4 x 40 mm particle satisfies the P-4 level commonly specified for personnel files, patient records and financial paperwork, while still moving paper roughly three times faster than the super micro-cut version of the same chassis. It is built for a single department or a shared corridor position, not for a shred service replacement.

Key Features

  • P-4 cross-cut geometry — 4 x 40 mm particles measure 160 mm², the maximum permitted by DIN 66399 for level P-4. That is the level most US privacy policies map to for routine confidential paper.
  • Electronic Capacity Control — A patented ECC indicator shows how close the current stack is to the machine’s limit before you feed it, which is the practical way jams get avoided rather than cleared.
  • Automatic oiler — Cross-cut 2604 models inject oil onto the cutting shafts automatically. There is no manual oiling schedule to forget, which matters on cross-cut heads that lose capacity quickly when dry.
  • Transparent safety shield — The patented SPS shield covers the feed opening. The motor cuts out automatically when the cabinet door is opened or the bin is full.
  • Zero-energy sleep mode — Power draw is cut off entirely after 30 minutes of inactivity rather than idling in standby.
  • Reusable shred bin — The 26-gallon bin is emptied directly; disposable bags are optional, not required.
  • Continuous-duty single-phase motor — Rated for continuous operation on a standard 115 V outlet, so there is no published cool-down cycle for normal office use.

What’s in the Box

  • Destroyit 2604 shredder in wooden cabinet on casters
  • Oil supply for the automatic oiler
  • Operating manual

Shred bags are not included. The 2604 bin is designed to be emptied directly, but if your waste handling requires bagging, the correct part is AC0920.

Who Should Buy This — and Who Should Not

Buy this if you have a workgroup of roughly five to fifteen people generating ordinary confidential paper and you need a P-4 machine that will not become the bottleneck. The 10.25-inch throat handles letter and A4 comfortably; legal-size sheets need to be fed lengthwise or folded.

Do not buy this if your policy calls for micro-cut or higher. Step to the DSH0364L, the super micro-cut version of this same cabinet, which reaches P-7 but drops to 6 to 8 sheets per pass and carries only a one-year shaft warranty. If you need P-4 with real throughput — more than thirty sheets at a time — the 3104 or the 3105 in 4 x 40 cross-cut is the better spend, not this. And if CD and DVD destruction is part of the job, this specific 2604 configuration is not confirmed by MBM for optical media; the 3104 strip-cut and 4 x 40 cross-cut models are.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many sheets can the DSH0362L actually take?

MBM rates it at 23 to 25 sheets, measured with 70 gsm paper. US 20 lb bond is slightly heavier than 70 gsm, so plan on the lower end of that range in practice. MBM states plainly in its own literature that real-world throughput can fall to about half the quoted figure depending on paper condition, humidity and how the operator feeds it. Feeding a consistent 18 to 20 sheets will get you more work done per hour than repeatedly stalling at 25.

Can it shred staples and paper clips?

Yes. MBM specifies hardened steel cutting shafts that accept staples, paper clips and credit cards on cross-cut 2604 models, so you do not need to de-staple before feeding. Optical media is a separate question: MBM does not confirm CD or DVD capability for the 2604 in its spec sheet, so do not assume it. If discs are part of your destruction workload, choose a model MBM explicitly lists for optical media.

Does it need a special power circuit?

No. It runs on 115 V and draws up to 1 horsepower, so a standard grounded office outlet is sufficient. That is one of the reasons the 2604 gets specified for retrofits into existing offices. By contrast the larger 3105 in this same family requires a dedicated 20 amp line, which usually means involving an electrician.

Will legal or tabloid paper fit?

The feed opening is 10.25 inches. Letter (8.5 in) and A4 (8.27 in) pass through with room to spare. Legal-size paper is 8.5 inches wide and also fits when fed in the normal orientation — the 14-inch dimension runs through the cutters lengthwise. Tabloid at 11 inches wide will not fit and must be folded or torn, which halves your effective capacity. If wide-format paper is routine, look at the 16-inch throat on the 4001 or 4003.

How often does the bin need emptying?

The bin holds 26 gallons. Cross-cut waste at P-4 compacts reasonably well, so a workgroup shredding a few hundred sheets a day will typically empty it once or twice a week. The machine stops automatically when the bin is full, so you will not overfill it by accident. Emptying is direct into a recycling container; no bag is required.

What is the warranty?

MBM warrants the cutting shafts and wheels of the cross-cut 2604 for the life of the machine, other parts for three years excluding wearables, and labor for 90 days. The lifetime shaft warranty does not extend to the super micro-cut version of this cabinet, which is covered for one year only — worth knowing if you are comparing the DSH0362L against the DSH0364L on price alone.

Is this NSA approved?

No. The 2604 cross-cut is a P-4 commercial office shredder and is not on the NSA/CSS Evaluated Products List. NSA/CSS Specification 02-01 requires a maximum particle size of 1 mm x 5 mm and listing of the specific model on the EPL. If you are destroying classified national security information, this machine does not qualify and no P-4 machine will.
