MBM DSH0361L 2604 cross-cut 3/32" x 5/8" (2 x 15 mm)

The MBM DSH0361L is the Destroyit 2604 with a 3/32 x 5/8 in (2 x 15 mm) cross-cut head, rated P-5 under DIN 66399 and able to take 14-16 sheets per pass. Its 1 HP motor and 26-gallon bin give a department high-security shredding without the small bin and short stacks of a deskside P-5 unit. It is aimed at records, claims, legal and finance teams with a written P-5 requirement and a steady flow of paper.

P-5 without the usual capacity penalty

Fine cuts take torque, and that is where most compact P-5 shredders fall short. The 2604 puts a 1 HP motor behind the 2 x 15 mm head, compared with 0.75 HP on the 2503 and 2465 and 0.5 HP on the 2445. The result is 14-16 sheets per pass at a particle size of 30 mm², the P-5 ceiling. A shredder that keeps pace with the work is one people actually use, and consistent use matters more for security than the cut alone.

P-5 is a commercial high-security level suited to regulated personal and financial records. It is not an NSA classification; that requires a 1 x 5 mm maximum particle and a listed model, which belongs to MBM's super micro-cut range.

Bin, noise and siting for the 2604 P-5

Fine P-5 confetti is bulky, which is why the 26-gallon bin matters on this model: it holds a department's output for longer between changes. MBM does not publish a sheets-per-fill figure. Lining the bin with a bag and changing it on a set schedule avoids a mid-document stop when the full-bin sensor trips.

The IDEAL manual for the 2604 lists 52 dB(A) at the operator position at idle, with no figure under load, so a copy room or alcove suits it better than a row of desks. At 123 lb and 36.5 in tall it passes through a standard doorway upright but needs two people or a dolly to move. The drive stops when the cabinet door is opened or the bin is full.

Choosing between the DSH0361L and related models

• DSH0362L (2604 P-4): 4 x 40 mm particles and 23-25 sheets. Choose it if your policy is satisfied by P-4.
• DSH0360L (2604 strip-cut): 27-30 sheets at P-2 and the only 2604 rated for CDs and DVDs.
• DSH0316L (3104 P-5): the same 2 x 15 mm cut at 14-17 sheets with a 12 in throat and a 32-gallon bin, for tabloid pages and fewer bin changes.

Who should buy the DSH0361L

It suits ten to twenty people sharing a P-5 shredder in a records department, insurance operation, law firm or financial back office. One or two users are better served by a smaller P-5 deskside such as the 2503 or 2465. Buyers who need to destroy discs, or who must meet NSA requirements, should look at other models.
