Fourteen to sixteen sheets at P-5 is an unusual combination, and it is the whole reason the Destroyit 2604 P-5 exists. Most machines that cut 2 x 15 mm particles manage eight to eleven sheets; this one uses a 1 HP motor and a 26-gallon bin to make high-security destruction practical at departmental volume. If you have been told to shred to P-5 and the paper keeps arriving, this is the answer in the Destroyit line.

Buying a high security level and then under-sizing the machine is the most common and most expensive mistake in this category. A P-5 shredder that takes eight sheets and fills a small bin twice a day does not get used consistently, and inconsistent use is a bigger exposure than a slightly coarser cut would have been. The 2604 P-5 is the configuration that removes that excuse: the security level is fixed and the capacity is sized to match it.

Who Should Buy This — and Who Should Not

This is the machine for organisations where a high security level is mandated and the volume is real: hospital records departments, insurance claims operations, larger legal practices, financial services back offices, and any site working to a client contract that specifies P-5. Where a smaller P-5 machine turns into a queue and a daily bin-emptying task, this one absorbs the work.

Do not buy it if P-4 satisfies your policy and volume is the only issue — the 2604 P-4 takes 23–25 sheets on the same cabinet, and the 2604 P-2 strip-cut reaches 27–30 if security requirements permit. Do not buy it for one or two users; at 123 lb and 36.5 inches tall it is floor-standing infrastructure, and the Destroyit 2503 P-5 (DSH0301L) or 2465 P-5 (DSH0069) do the same cut for far less. It is also not rated for CDs or DVDs — only the strip-cut 2604 handles those — and it is not a high-security machine in the NSA sense. For that you need the super micro-cut end of the range.

Siting and Installation

Delivered assembled, running from a standard 115 volt outlet, and needing nothing more than a permanent position with room for the cabinet door to open. Weight is the practical consideration: 123 lb means a dolly or two people, and once it is placed it will stay there. Order shred bags alongside it and set an expectation with whoever manages the area that a P-5 machine at this throughput will need its bag changed on a schedule, not when somebody happens to notice.
