MBM DSH0345 4108 strip-cut 1/4" (6 mm)

The MBM DSH0345 is the strip-cut version of the Destroyit 4108, a floor-standing conveyor shredder that slices paper into 1/4 in (6 mm) strips at security level P-2 under DIN 66399. With a 10 hp drive and a rating of 75 to 95 sheets per pass, it is the highest-capacity way to run the 4108 chassis. It is meant for a central shred point clearing large amounts of low-sensitivity paper, not for personal or client data.

How the conveyor changes the job

On a cabinet shredder somebody stands at the throat and feeds handfuls. On the 4108 the operator places a stack on the broad feed table and the belt delivers it into the cutters, so one person can keep the machine busy while sorting the next box. If the head starts to labor, the automatic reverse backs the paper out and feeds it again, and LED lights over the working area help on a table this deep.

The cutting shafts are specially hardened, and an electronic oil injection system lubricates them while the machine runs, so there is no hand-oiling routine during long sessions. You still need to keep the oil supply topped up. Status is shown on the EASY SWITCH multifunction control, and after 30 minutes without use the 4108 drops into standby.

What a 6 mm strip will and will not protect

P-2 is a paper-reduction level. A strip this wide keeps lines of print legible along its length, so the DSH0345 suits print overruns, outdated forms, pick lists, manifests and returned mail that carries nothing personal. Anything with names, account numbers or customer details belongs in a cross-cut machine. MBM's product data lists staples, paper clips, credit cards and CDs/DVDs alongside paper, so files rarely need stripping before they go on the belt.

Plan on the real rate being lower than the headline. MBM rates capacity on light 70 gsm sheets and warns that practical throughput can fall to about half the quoted figure; US 20 lb bond is slightly heavier.

Site requirements and bags

This is an installed machine rather than a plug-in one. It needs a 220 V three-phase connection made by an electrician, a delivery route that can take 787 lb, and floor space for a unit 67 in deep plus room for an operator at the table and for the bag frame to roll out of the rear door. Strip waste is bulky, so expect frequent bag changes at high feed rates. Liners are not supplied with the shredder.

Strip-cut 4108 or a cross-cut alternative?

• MBM DSH0348 4108 cross-cut: the same conveyor chassis, throat and 79-gallon compartment, but a 6 x 50 mm cut at P-3, 65-82 sheets and an 8 hp drive. Choose it when the paper carries confidential business information.
• MBM DSH0264 4606 cross-cut: P-5 at 2 x 15 mm, 32-37 sheets through an 18 in throat, for programs that name a higher level.
• MBM DSH0500L 4005 strip-cut: the same 6 mm P-2 strip at 50-52 sheets in a 44-gallon office machine, for departmental rather than site-wide volume.

Is the DSH0345 the right buy?

It fits print rooms, warehouses, mailrooms and plants where the main aim is to reduce large amounts of non-confidential paper with minimal labor, and where three-phase power is already on site. Look elsewhere if any of your paper contains personal data, or if the volume does not justify a 787 lb conveyor installation.
