Can this shred CDs and DVDs?
Yes, and it is the only 2465 that can. MBM rates disks for the P-2 strip-cut version only; the P-4 and P-5 cross-cut models of the same cabinet are not rated for optical media. Feed disks one at a time rather than mixing them into a stack of paper. Note that a strip-cut disk is not destroyed to a data-security standard, only broken into pieces — if the disk holds sensitive data, use a dedicated media destroyer.
Is P-2 secure enough for customer records?
No, in most people's judgement. P-2 produces 4 mm strips, and strip-cut output is the easiest shredded format to reconstruct because each strip preserves a continuous vertical slice of the page. For personal data, financial records, HR files or anything covered by a retention and destruction policy, P-4 is the usual commercial minimum. This model is the right choice for non-sensitive bulk paper, not for regulated records.
How much faster is this than the cross-cut 2465?
Substantially. All three 2465 models run at 27 ft/min with the same 0.75 HP motor, but the strip-cut takes 19 to 22 sheets per pass against 13 to 15 for the P-4 and 9 to 11 for the P-5. That is roughly double the P-5 for the same number of trips to the machine. Strip-cut waste also packs more densely than cross-cut confetti, so you empty the 9-gallon bin less often for the same number of sheets destroyed.
Will it handle stapled documents?
Yes. MBM rates the strip-cut 2465 for staples and paper clips as well as credit cards, so stapled reports go in without being stripped. This is one of the practical differences between a professional machine and a consumer one, and it saves more time than the sheet capacity does. Bulldog clips, ring binders, laminated sheets and adhesive-bound documents are still not suitable.
Can I move it around the office?
Yes. The 2465 cabinet is mounted on castors, so at 58 lb you roll it rather than carry it. The cabinet measures 11.5 inches deep, 15.5 inches wide and 25 inches tall, which means it fits under most standard-height desks and moves through a normal doorway without difficulty. There is no brake mentioned in MBM's specification, so on a hard floor make sure it is against a wall or in a corner when in use.
How often will I empty the 9-gallon bin?
Less often than with a cross-cut model, because 4 mm strips settle far more densely than P-4 or P-5 confetti. MBM does not publish a sheets-per-fill figure and we will not invent one, but the practical experience is that a strip-cut bin holds noticeably more destroyed paper by weight than the same bin on a cross-cut machine. The shredder cuts power automatically when the bin is full, so you will not overrun it.
