The 4 x 40 mm cross-cut works out to 160 mm² — the exact upper limit DIN 66399 allows for P-4 — and in exchange the machine swallows 11 to 13 sheets per pass instead of the 6 to 8 its P-5 sibling manages. If your policy says P-4 and your problem is a full in-tray, this is the sensible choice in the family.

The 2445 family gives you one cabinet and three cutting heads, and the choice between them is purely a security-versus-speed decision. This P-4 variant is the volume option. It is also the one most buyers should look at first, because P-4 cross-cut is the level that satisfies the great majority of commercial document retention policies, and there is no advantage to buying finer particles than your obligations and your risk appetite actually call for.

Who Should Buy This — and Who Should Not

Buy this if P-4 satisfies your document policy and you want the best throughput available in a 25-inch-tall cabinet. It suits a small office where two or three people bring documents to a shared corner unit, or an individual who clears a backlog once a week rather than a few pages a day. The card capability covers expired credit cards, ID badges and loyalty cards without a separate machine.

Do not buy it if your obligations specify P-5 or stricter — step to DSH0065, the identical cabinet with a 2 x 15 mm head. Do not buy it if you need to destroy CDs or DVDs, which MBM does not rate for cross-cut 2445 models. And if 11 to 13 sheets still feels short, the Destroyit 2465 P-4 (DSH0070) reaches 13–15 sheets at nearly twice the shred speed on the same 9.5-inch throat, while the Destroyit 2503 P-4 adds a 20-gallon bin for departmental use.

Running Costs and Care

Budget for two consumables: shred bags, which are not supplied with the machine, and shredder oil for the cutting shafts. MBM gives the oiling interval in the operating instructions; follow that rather than a generic schedule, because it is written for this cutting head. The wooden cabinet needs nothing beyond wiping down. Everything else on the machine is covered by the 3-year parts warranty, with the shafts themselves warranted for life against defects.
