Its 2 x 15 mm particle measures 30 mm², which sits exactly on the DIN 66399 P-5 limit, and it is the model to pick when the question is how small the pieces are rather than how fast the stack disappears. Everything else — the 9.5-inch throat, the 9-gallon bin, the 0.5 HP motor, the 25-inch cabinet — is identical to its P-4 sibling. You are buying the cutting head, and paying for it in sheets per pass.

DIN 66399 sets P-5 at a maximum particle area of 30 mm². A 2 x 15 mm cut is exactly 30 mm², so this machine qualifies on the number rather than by a comfortable margin — which is standard practice across the industry and worth knowing if your compliance team reads specifications closely. What the number means in practice is a particle roughly the size of a grain of rice, against the 4 x 40 mm sliver a P-4 machine produces.

Who Should Buy This — and Who Should Not

This is the right 2445 for anyone whose retention policy, insurer or client contract specifies P-5 rather than leaving the level open. Medical practices handling identifiable patient records, law firms destroying client files, and finance teams shredding account statements all sit naturally here. Six to eight sheets is slow, but the machine is a personal or two-person device and the bin is generous for its class.

Do not buy it if volume is the real constraint. At 14 ft/min and 6–8 sheets it will frustrate anyone clearing a filing cabinet, and the P-4 version of this identical cabinet (DSH0066) nearly doubles the bite to 11–13 sheets if P-4 satisfies your policy. If you want P-5 and speed, the Destroyit 2465 P-5 (DSH0069) uses a 0.75 HP motor to reach 9–11 sheets at 27 ft/min in a cabinet of the same width. And if you need particles smaller than P-5, the super micro-cut 2445 (DSH0067) is the same chassis again — but check its warranty terms before assuming they match.

Running Costs and Care

The 2445 P-5 is a low-maintenance machine, but the cutting shafts do need oiling at the interval MBM sets out in the operating instructions. Fine cross-cut heads accumulate paper dust faster than coarse ones, and an under-oiled shaft is the usual reason a P-5 machine starts jamming on stacks it used to handle. Bags are worth using: 2 x 15 mm confetti is fine enough to escape a bin when you tip it, and it is unpleasant to sweep up.
