Description

ACCED21/8 is the eight-bottle pack of MBM's Destroyit shredder oil, one pint per bottle. It is the same fluid as the four-pint pack and covers the same machines — the difference is stock level and cost per pint, which makes this the sensible pack for a site running several hand-oiled shredders.

Compatible Models

Destroyit 2245, 2265, 2270, 2360, 2445, 2465, 2503, 3104 and 3804. MBM states its shredder oil is formulated for use in any Destroyit model, so the list reflects the machines this pack size is paired with rather than a limit on where the oil can be used.

Specifications

Part number ACCED21/8
Pack quantity 8 bottles
Bottle size 1 pint (16 fl oz)
Total volume 8 pints (1 gallon)
Type High-cling, non-toxic, non-detergent shredder oil
Application Manual oiling

MBM's guidance is to oil generously after each bag change. You can either squirt the oil directly into the feed opening across the width of the cutting head, or run a sheet of paper through with oil applied in an X or S pattern. The second method spreads it more evenly across the shafts.

Buying and Storage

Eight pints covers a long service life for a single machine, and it is the right pack when several shredders share one supply cupboard. Keep the bottles upright and capped: the squeeze nozzle is the part that fails first if a bottle is stored on its side, and a leaking bottle in a stationery cupboard is a genuine nuisance.

One practical point on distribution. If your shredders sit on different floors, split the pack and keep a bottle at each machine rather than centralising all eight. Oiling that requires a walk does not happen, and the resulting drop in sheet capacity is usually blamed on the machine rather than on the maintenance routine. MBM specifies the same oil across its hand-oiled Destroyit range, so one pack covers a mixed fleet of the models listed above.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this better value than the four-pint pack?

Per pint, yes. Both packs contain identical one-pint bottles of the same oil and cover the same nine machines, so the only question is how fast you use it. A single deskside shredder emptied weekly will take a long time to work through eight pints; a department with three or four machines will not.

Will these bottles fill an automatic oiler?

They will physically pour into a reservoir, but MBM lists different packs for automatic oiler machines: ACCED21/6, six one-quart bottles, and ACCED21/G, four one-gallon bottles. Those exist because filling a reservoir from pint bottles is slow and wasteful. If your machine is a 2604, 3105, 4002, 4005, 4108, 4605, 4606 or 5009, order the larger containers.

How much oil should I use each time?

Enough to wet the full width of the cutting head. MBM's instruction is to oil generously after each bag change, applying it either directly into the feed opening or on a sheet of paper in an X or S pattern that is then shredded. Under-oiling is far more common than over-oiling and shows up as a machine that jams on modest sheet counts.

Does oiling void anything on a strip-cut machine?

No. Strip-cut heads simply need it less often than cross-cut and micro-cut heads, because they have less cutting surface in contact with the paper. Oiling a strip-cut machine on the same after-each-bag-change schedule does no harm; you will just find the bottles last longer.
