Description

ACCED21/4 is four one-pint bottles of MBM's Destroyit shredder oil, sized for machines that are oiled by hand rather than by an automatic oiler. MBM describes it as a high-cling, non-toxic, non-detergent lubricant formulated for use in any Destroyit model, and lists this pack against the 2245, 2265, 2270, 2360, 2445, 2465, 2503, 3104 and 3804.

Compatible Models

Destroyit 2245, 2265, 2270, 2360, 2445, 2465, 2503, 3104 and 3804. MBM states the oil itself suits any Destroyit shredder; the model list reflects which machines it pairs this pack size with, not a restriction on the fluid.

Specifications

Part number ACCED21/4
Pack quantity 4 bottles
Bottle size 1 pint (16 fl oz)
Total volume 4 pints (64 fl oz)
Type High-cling, non-toxic, non-detergent shredder oil
Application Manual oiling

MBM's guidance is to oil generously after each bag change. You can either squirt the oil directly into the feed opening across the width of the cutting head, or run a sheet of paper through with oil applied in an X or S pattern. The second method spreads it more evenly across the shafts.

Why Oiling Matters on These Machines

Lubrication is the cheapest maintenance a shredder gets and the first thing an office stops doing. A dry cutting head does not fail dramatically; it loses sheet capacity gradually, so the machine that used to take a dozen sheets starts jamming on eight and everyone assumes it is worn out. Paper dust bonds to dry shafts, the motor draws more current, and the thermal cut-out trips sooner into each run.

If you go through more than a bottle a month, the eight-pint pack under part number ACCED21/8 is the same oil at a lower cost per pint. Machines with an automatic oiler take the quart or gallon packs instead, since those refill a reservoir rather than being applied by hand. Keep a bottle beside the machine rather than in a stockroom two floors away, since the oiling only happens if it is convenient.

Frequently Asked Questions

How often should I oil the shredder?

MBM's stated guidance is to oil generously after each bag change. In practice that means a heavy-use machine in a shared office gets oiled weekly and a lightly used one monthly. Cross-cut and micro-cut heads benefit most, because the finer the cut the more surface area is in contact and the faster friction builds.

Is this the same oil as the quart and gallon packs?

MBM describes all of its Destroyit oil the same way, as a high-cling non-toxic non-detergent lubricant for its shredders. What differs is the container and the machines each pack is listed against: pints for hand-oiling, quarts under ACCED21/6 and gallons under ACCED21/G for filling automatic oiler reservoirs. We have not seen MBM publish separate technical data sheets distinguishing the fluids.

Can I use vegetable oil or an aerosol lubricant instead?

We do not recommend it and MBM does not list any alternative. Vegetable oils gum as they oxidise and leave a residue that holds paper dust on the shafts. Aerosols are the bigger risk: many use flammable propellants, and the inside of a shredder head is full of dry paper dust. Stick to a purpose-made shredder oil.

What is the difference between ACCED21/4 and ACCED21/8?

Only the number of bottles. Both are one-pint bottles of the same oil and MBM lists both against the same nine machines. The eight-pack costs less per pint, so the four-pack makes sense for a single machine or a first order, and the eight-pack for a site with several shredders or heavy daily use.
