Frequently Asked Questions
How do I apply the oil correctly?
The standard method is to apply oil across the full width of the cutting head, then run the machine in reverse briefly to distribute it before shredding again. Applying it in one spot in the centre does very little — the outer cutters do as much work as the middle ones. Follow the procedure in your machine's manual, which will specify whether to oil through the throat or through a dedicated port.
How long will 12 bottles last?
For one deskside machine in normal office use, comfortably a year and often longer. For a departmental 175 running most of the day, considerably less. If you find you are opening a new bottle every couple of weeks, the 4 x 1 gallon case (part 78839) becomes the cheaper way to buy the same oil.
Is this the same oil as the one-gallon jugs?
Yes — the same intimus cutting-head lubricant, packaged differently. The choice between them is about how you dispense it and how fast you use it, not about the product. Sites with an automatic oiler generally take gallons; sites oiling by hand take bottles.
Does a strip-cut shredder need oiling too?
Cross-cut and particle-cut heads are the ones that most need it, and they are what intimus's warranty language specifically addresses. Strip-cut heads are more tolerant but still benefit. Every intimus cross-cut and particle-cut model we sell should be on a lubrication routine.
Can I buy a single bottle?
This part is packaged and supplied by intimus as a case of twelve, so the case is the unit we stock. If a single bottle is genuinely all you need, contact us and we will see what we can do rather than have you buy twelve.
