Description

The intimus 14.87 is a shredder and baling press in one machine: the same 4 kW, 6 x 50 mm P-3 cutting head as the intimus 14.95, discharging into an integrated 80 kN press that compacts the shred by up to 70 percent into bales of 60–80 kg. If your destruction volume is high enough that handling the waste has become the expensive part of the job, that is what this machine is for.

Key Features

  • Integrated baling press, 80 kN (9 tons). When enough material has accumulated the compaction cycle starts automatically, and a "bale complete" indicator interrupts the cutting process so the operator can eject the bale on a push-button.
  • Up to 70 percent volume reduction. Loose cross-cut shred is mostly air; baled shred is a saleable, stackable, haulable commodity.
  • Bales can be tied twice for stability in transit.
  • Up to 120 sheets a pass at 80 g/m² — intimus North America quotes up to 130 per pass and up to 620 lb per hour on US stock — through a 440 mm (17 in) feed opening.
  • Conveyor belt feed with automatic reverse, overload protection and bin-full sensing. Designed for continuous operator-fed running rather than sheet-by-sheet work.
  • Emergency stop bar, lockable master switch and dust extractor among the safety and environment features intimus lists for this model.
  • Three years on the cutting cylinders under intimus North America's industrial and shredder/baler warranty terms.

What's in the Box

The shredder and integrated baling press, supplied here alongside item 475904. Strapping tape for the bales is a consumable and is not included — intimus lists 500 m rolls as item 80661, with 300 m (item 80804) and 400 m (item 80662) alternatives. Other accessories intimus lists specifically for this model are cutting-block oil in 5 litres (item 96946), a reusable collecting bag for heavy-duty shredders (item 99969) and the APU 100 suction system (item 303101). An automatic oiler and a bagging system for moisture protection are further options.

Who Should Buy This — and Who Should Not

Buy it if you already shred at volume and your real cost is the waste stream: collection bags, storage space, hauling charges, and the labour of moving loose shred. Compacting to 30 percent of the original volume changes the economics of all four, and baled paper is worth more to a recycler than loose cross-cut shred. Records centres, government agencies, financial back offices and small commercial destruction operators are the usual fit.

Do not buy it if your volume does not justify it. This machine is 106 in deep and weighs just over a ton; if you are not filling bales regularly, the intimus 14.95 is the identical cutting head without the press, at roughly two-thirds the footprint and a substantially lower price. If you need considerably more capacity, the intimus 16.86 SmartShred steps up to a 500 mm feed opening, a 7.5 kW cutting head and up to 290 sheets a pass with the same 9-ton press. And note the security ceiling: 6 x 50 mm is P-3, suitable for internal confidential paper but below the P-4 level most policies name for personal data.

Frequently Asked Questions

How big and how heavy are the bales?

intimus quotes a bale weight of 60–80 kg, which is 130–175 lb, produced at 80 kN (9 tons) of press force with up to 70 percent volume reduction. Bales can be tied twice for stability. intimus does not publish bale dimensions for the 14.87, so we are not quoting a figure — if the physical bale size matters for your pallet or container planning, ask us and we will get it confirmed rather than estimate it.

Does the baler run automatically?

Largely, yes. intimus describes the process as automatic: when enough shredded material has accumulated the compaction cycle starts on its own, and when the bale is finished a bale-complete indicator interrupts the cutting process so nothing is shredded into a full chamber. The operator then ejects the bale using a push-button control and ties it. So an operator is needed at bale changeover and for feeding, but not to run the press cycle.

Is strapping tape included?

No. Strapping tape is a consumable, ordered separately. intimus lists three roll sizes: 300 m (item 80804), 400 m (item 80662) and 500 m (item 80661), with the 500 m roll listed as the accessory for this model. Order it with the machine — a shredder/baler with no tape produces bales that cannot be tied, and untied bales spring apart when moved.

What is the difference between the 14.87 and the 14.95?

The press. Both use the same 4 kW cutting head at 6 x 50 mm and P-3, both take up to 120 sheets at 80 g/m2 through a 440 mm feed opening, and both run at roughly 325 kg/h. The 14.95 discharges loose shred into a collection container and measures 32 x 68 x 64 in at 443 kg. The 14.87 adds the 80 kN baling press, extending the machine to 32 x 106 x 64 in and 914 kg. Choose on waste handling cost, not on shredding performance.

Can it shred staples, clips, cards and discs?

Yes. intimus rates the 14.87 for paper with staples and paper clips, credit cards, ID badges, optical media and floppy disks, all in one operation. The conveyor belt feed is designed for unsorted material, including crumpled paper and intact folders, so operators do not have to prepare documents. Remove ring binder mechanisms, lever-arch spines and other large metal components — those are not on the rated material list.

What power supply and space does it need?

220 V, three phase, 60 Hz in the North American configuration, with a 4 kW (5.25 HP) motor; intimus's international datasheet lists 400 V / 50 Hz for the EU version. Allow for the full 32 x 106 x 64 in footprint plus operator and bale-removal clearance at the discharge end, and remember it weighs 914 kg. Confirm floor loading, three-phase supply and the delivery route before ordering — this is a rigging job, not a two-person carry.

Is P-3 acceptable for documents containing personal data?

Usually not. At 6 x 50 mm the particle is 300 mm2, which qualifies as P-3 under DIN 66399 (the limit is 320 mm2) but falls short of P-4 at 160 mm2. P-3 is intended for internal confidential material. Most data-protection policies specify P-4 or higher for documents containing names, addresses, account numbers or health data. Check your own retention and destruction policy before specifying this machine for regulated records.
