Description

The intimus 14.95 is a free-standing industrial shredder for centralised document destruction — the machine an organisation buys when office shredders have stopped being a sensible answer. It takes up to 120 sheets of 80 g/m² paper in a single pass through a 440 mm (17 in) feed opening, driven by a 4 kW three-phase motor, and cuts 6 x 50 mm to DIN 66399 P-3. Unlike its 14.87 sibling it has no baling press; waste drops into a collection container.

Key Features

  • Genuine industrial throughput. Approximately 325 kg/h; intimus North America quotes up to 620 lb per hour and up to 130 sheets per pass on lighter US stock. This is a machine for consolidating a building's shredding into one operation.
  • Internal conveyor belt and dosage paddles. Paper is metered into the cutting head rather than dumped on it, which is what allows a 120-sheet pass rating to be usable in practice instead of theoretical.
  • 440 mm (17 in) feed opening. Whole file folders, crumpled paper, tabloid and mixed stacks go in without preparation.
  • Automatic reverse, overload protection and a bin-full sensor with automatic shut-off. The operator does not have to watch it.
  • Narrow profile on castors. At 32 in wide it passes through standard doorways, which is not true of every machine in this class.
  • Rated for paper, credit cards, ID badges, optical media and floppy disks.
  • Three years on the cutting cylinders under intimus North America's industrial shredder warranty terms.

What's in the Box

The shredder with its internal conveyor and collection container. Options include an emergency-stop bar, an automatic lubrication system and dust extraction — intimus lists the APU 100 suction system as item 303101, cutting-block oil in 5 litre containers as item 96946, and a reusable collecting bag for heavy-duty shredders as item 99969. None of these is included as standard. Specify the dust extraction at the time of order if the machine will run in an occupied room; a 325 kg/h cross-cut operation produces real quantities of paper dust.

Who Should Buy This — and Who Should Not

Buy it if you are running a centralised destruction point — a shared services floor, a records centre, a mailroom handling returned documents, or a small commercial shredding operation — and the material is general business paper at P-3. The 17 in feed and the metered conveyor mean an operator can work continuously rather than feeding sheet stacks by hand.

Do not buy it if you need the waste baled. Loose 6 x 50 mm shred is bulky and expensive to store and haul; the intimus 14.87 is this same 4 kW cutting head with an integrated baling press that compresses the output by up to 70 percent into 130–175 lb bales. If you are already handling the volumes that justify the 14.95, the baler version usually pays for itself in haulage. Do not buy it either if your policy specifies P-4 or higher — 6 x 50 mm is 300 mm², which is P-3 and nothing more. And check your electrical supply first: this is a 220 V three-phase machine, not something you plug into a wall outlet.

Frequently Asked Questions

What electrical supply does the intimus 14.95 need?

220 V, three phase, 60 Hz in the North American configuration, driving a 4 kW (5.25 HP) motor. intimus's international datasheet lists the same machine at 400 V / 50 Hz for Europe. This is not a machine you plug into an ordinary outlet — three-phase power has to be run to the installation point, and at 977 lb the shredder is not easy to relocate afterwards. Have an electrician confirm supply and disconnect requirements before you order.

Is P-3 secure enough?

It depends entirely on what you shred. At 6 x 50 mm the particle is 300 mm2, inside the 320 mm2 that DIN 66399 allows for P-3. P-3 is intended for internal confidential material. Documents containing personal data are normally specified at P-4 or above, and the 14.95 cannot reach P-4 — intimus offers this cutting head at 6 x 50 mm and 3.8 x 40 mm only. If your policy names P-4, this is the wrong machine and you should be looking at a different intimus industrial cutting size or model.

How does the 14.95 differ from the 14.87?

Same cutting head, different waste handling. Both take up to 120 sheets at 80 g/m2, use a 440 mm feed opening and a 4 kW motor, and cut 6 x 50 mm at P-3. The 14.95 discharges into a collection container; the 14.87 adds an integrated 80 kN baling press that compacts the shred by up to 70 percent into bales of 60–80 kg (130–175 lb). The 14.87 is longer — 106 in against 68 in — and heavier, and it costs more.

Can it shred whole file folders, staples and clips?

Yes. intimus rates the 14.95 for paper with staples and paper clips, credit cards, ID badges, optical media and floppy disks, and the 17 in feed opening plus the internal conveyor and dosage paddles are designed for unsorted material including crumpled paper and intact folders. Ring binder mechanisms and large metal fasteners should still be removed. Do not feed lever-arch spines or anything with a spring steel component.

How noisy is it, and can it go in an occupied area?

61 dB(A) at idle per intimus's datasheet, which is materially louder than the office machines in this range and will rise under load. It is a machine for a mailroom, plant room or dedicated destruction area rather than an open-plan office. If it must sit near people, budget for the optional dust extraction as well — intimus lists the APU 100 suction system as item 303101, and a 325 kg/h cross-cut operation generates significant paper dust.

What is the warranty on an intimus industrial shredder?

Under intimus North America's terms, industrial shredders carry one year on parts, 90 days on labour and three years on the cutting cylinders. That is a different structure from intimus's office machines, which get two years parts and a lifetime limited cylinder warranty. Normal wear items are excluded, and coverage depends on the cutting cylinders being lubricated as specified — on a machine at this duty, the optional automatic lubrication system is worth considering for that reason alone.
