Is P-2 secure enough for confidential documents?
No. DIN 66399 P-2 permits particles up to 800 mm2, and at 10 x 70 mm this machine produces 700 mm2 particles on which text often remains legible. P-2 is defined for general internal documents whose disclosure would cause no harm — internal notices, superseded price lists, printer waste. Anything containing personal data, customer records or commercially sensitive information should be destroyed at P-4 or above. The 6 x 50 mm version of this same machine is P-3, and still below P-4.
Why choose this over the 6 x 50 mm version?
Throughput, and only throughput. The 10 x 70 mm configuration takes up to 450 sheets a pass at 80 g/m2 and runs at roughly 550 kg/h; the 6 x 50 mm P-3 configuration takes up to 290 sheets at roughly 480 kg/h. Chassis, press, controls, motors, footprint and weight are identical. If your material is genuinely non-sensitive bulk paper, the faster cut is the better machine. If any of it is confidential, the extra speed is not worth the exposure.
How many bales will it produce in a shift?
Bales weigh 60–80 kg (130–175 lb) each. At roughly 550 kg/h of throughput, an operator feeding continuously would be filling a bale every eight to ten minutes of running time, so bale removal and tying quickly becomes the rate limiter rather than the cutting head. Plan the working area around bale handling: you need clear space at the discharge end, a pallet or cart, and enough strapping tape on hand.
Does it need three-phase power?
Yes. The North American configuration is 220 V, three phase, 60 Hz, with a 10 HP shredder motor and a 5.25 HP baler motor per intimus North America; the international datasheet lists 7.5 kW at 400 V / 50 Hz. There is no single-phase option. Confirm three-phase supply, disconnect, floor loading for 1,256 kg and the delivery route before ordering — the machine is about 284 cm long.
Can it shred cards, discs and stapled paper?
The 16.86 chassis is rated by intimus for flat sheets, crumpled paper, folders, paper with staples and clips, plastic cards, ID badges and optical media, and the conveyor feed is designed for unsorted material. However, if you are destroying cards or media you almost certainly need better than P-2, so the 6 x 50 mm P-3 configuration is the more sensible specification for that work. Large metal items such as ring binder mechanisms must be removed either way.
Is strapping tape included, and which roll do I need?
Not included. intimus lists three roll lengths: 300 m (item 80804), 400 m (item 80662) and 500 m (item 80661). The 500 m roll is the one listed for the intimus shredder/baler combinations and is the sensible default at this throughput, because roll changes cost you production time. Order at least one spare with the machine.
