Powershred LX220 Cross-Cut Shredder (White)

The Fellowes Powershred LX220 (White) is the top LX model in a white housing: a P-4 shredder that takes 20 sheets of 20 lb paper per pass, runs for 30 minutes and holds 8 gallons of fine 4 x 12 mm shred. It suits small client-facing offices, such as an agency, practice or studio, that shred a real volume and want the machine to look tidy.

Sized for a small team

A shared shredder in a small office has to cope with several people's paperwork without constant attention. The white LX220's 20-sheet feed and 30-minute run handle that comfortably, and its 8-gallon bin means fewer trips to the recycling sack than the 6-gallon LX200 and LX210. Measuring 23.25 x 11.75 x 16.50 in and weighing 34.2 lb, it is a floor-standing unit for a fixed spot, and the white finish suits reception areas and open studios.

What it shreds, and how finely

Each sheet becomes pieces of 5/32 x 1/2 in, around 48 mm², roughly a third the size left by Fellowes' Ci cross-cut models. That is P-4 under DIN 66399. Fellowes calls the LX range micro-cut, but P-5 needs particles of 30 mm² or less, so this is not a P-5 shredder.

Through the 9 in (230 mm) entry you can feed paper with staples or clips, credit cards and unopened junk mail. CDs and DVDs, labels, laminates, cardboard and file folders stay out. It draws 5.8 A at 120 V, 60 Hz, and the cutters should be oiled with Fellowes 35250 whenever the bin is emptied.

White LX220 or a smaller white LX?

The white LX210 (5015301) takes 16 sheets, runs for 20 minutes and has a 6-gallon bin, which suits one or two users. The white LX200 (5015101) is the light-duty option at 12 sheets and 10 minutes. Choose the LX220 when the bin size and the longer run will actually be used.

Who should look elsewhere

If the machine will run on and off all day for a department, a continuous-duty Powershred cabinet is the better category. If discs must be destroyed, or your policy specifies P-5, the LX220 is not the answer either. For everything else a small, presentable office shreds, it is a strong fit.
