The Dahle ShredMATIC® SM 300 solves a specific office problem: nobody wants to stand at a shredder. Load up to 300 sheets into the lockable auto-feed compartment, close the lid and walk away - the machine feeds itself at 12 ft/min and stops when it is done. A manual slot alongside takes 14 sheets a pass for anything you need shredded immediately. It is a P-4 cross-cut machine, oil-free, and at 41 lb it is small enough for a copy room, which is exactly where a 3-to-5-user shredder belongs.

There is very little to own here beyond the machine. No oil, no oil sheets, no lubrication interval - the cutting cylinders run dry by design and Dahle warrants them for five years. It plugs into a standard 115 V outlet, weighs 41 lb so two people can reposition it easily, and stands 27.5 inches tall, which puts the hopper lid at a comfortable loading height on the floor rather than on a desk. The only recurring consumables are waste liners for the 11-gallon bin, and even those are optional if you are willing to tip the bin directly.

Waste bags are not included and Dahle does not publish a bag part number for this model - order liners sized for an 11-gallon bin, or empty the bin directly. No oil is required or supplied, because the cutting cylinders are oil-free.

Who Should Buy This — and Who Should Not

Buy the SM 300 if three to five people generate confidential paper and none of them should be spending time feeding a shredder. The lockable hopper is what makes unattended operation defensible in an open-plan office, and the oil-free head removes the maintenance task that most office shredders quietly fail at.

Do not buy it if one or two people produce a modest amount of paper - the ShredMATIC SM 90 does the same job with a 90-sheet hopper at a much lower price and half the weight. Do not buy it if your policy requires P-5 or higher: P-4 permits a 160 mm2 particle and is a general commercial class, not a high security one. And do not buy it for departmental volume - an 11-gallon bin and a 300-sheet hopper will be a bottleneck for a whole floor, which is where a PowerTEC 909 HS starts to make sense.
