KOBRA 310 TS SS4

The KOBRA 310 TS SS4 is a P-2 strip-cut departmental shredder that cuts 3.8 mm (1/8 in nominal) strips at up to 39 sheets of 70 g/m² per pass. It is the finer of the two strip-cut models in the 310 Touch Screen line, with a 1.5 HP motor, 13 in throat, 40-gallon bag and a separate cutter for discs and cards. It is for busy departments that shred routine paper and prefer narrower strips over maximum speed.

SS4 or SS5: narrower strips, eight fewer sheets

The SS4 and SS5 share everything but the head. The SS4 cuts 3.8 mm strips against 5.8 mm on the SS5, and gives up about eight sheets of capacity for it: 39 versus 47. Both are P-2, so choosing the SS4 is about tidier waste and less readable strips, not compliance. If a manager wants the finest strip this range offers, this is the one.

Features on the 310 TS SS4

Forward, reverse and standby are all selected on a touch panel that reports status at a glance, and the EPC system displays real-time cutting load so operators can back off before a jam. Paper goes through the main strip knives, which Kobra says are unaffected by staples and paper clips; CDs, DVDs, Blu-ray discs and cards use the dedicated media unit and its own bin. The 1.5 HP (1200 W input) motor is rated for 24-hour operation with no duty cycle. Holding Forward for 5 seconds sets up transparent-material mode for film, which can otherwise slip past the sensors. Standby engages about 8 seconds after the last sheet, and the machine cuts mains power after 4 hours idle. It is listed as TAA compliant.

Upkeep

There is no automatic oiler on the SS4. Strip heads tolerate light maintenance well, but oiling the knives periodically, more often with stapled or glossy stock, keeps throughput up and jams down. Kobra's US datasheet lists no bag article code or warranty term, so treat bags as a separate line item.

For pure purge speed, the KOBRA 310 TS SS5 takes up to 47 sheets of 70 g/m² with 5.8 mm strips at the same P-2 level. For regulated data, the KOBRA 310 TS CC4 AO (P-4, up to 31 sheets) and KOBRA 310 TS CC2 AO (P-5, up to 19 sheets) use the same chassis with an automatic oiler. Classified paper needs the KOBRA 310 TS HS-6 AO.

Who the SS4 suits

A department that wants the touch interface, the disc cutter and the 13 in throat for routine paper, and values narrower strips. Do not use it for personal, financial or health information; strip cut at P-2 is not enough for that.
