KOBRA 300.2 S5

The KOBRA 300.2 S5 is a P-2 strip-cut departmental shredder that slices paper into 5.8 mm (1/4 in nominal) strips and takes up to 40 sheets per pass through a 12.2 in (310 mm) opening. It sits on casters in a steel cabinet with a 40-gallon (150-liter) bagged bin and a 1 1/2 HP motor rated for continuous running. It is meant for departments clearing large amounts of routine, non-sensitive paper, where speed matters more than particle size.

Where the 300.2 S5 earns its keep: bulk paper, not secrets

Among KOBRA's 300.2 cabinets, the S5 head has the widest strip and therefore the highest sheet count. A 40-sheet bite and a feed rate of 17 ft/min mean a stack of superseded print runs, old meeting packs or delivery notes disappears quickly, and the motor can keep going through an all-day archive purge without forcing a rest period. Hardened steel knives on a chain drive with steel gears tolerate staples and paper clips, so stapled sets can go straight in. Remove binder clips and ring-binder hardware first.

The trade-off is security. DIN 66399 level P-2 covers internal documents whose disclosure would cause little harm. Strips of this width can be pieced back together by someone determined, so customer files, payroll and health records belong on a cross-cut or micro-cut machine.

Day-to-day use of the 300.2 S5

Paper breaks an electronic eye to start the cutters, and an overloaded stack sends them into reverse automatically. After about 8 seconds without paper the unit switches to Energy Smart standby, useful on a machine left powered all day in a copy room. Opening the cabinet door or filling the bag stops the knives.

Plan for consumables. KOBRA lists the waste bags as part SB-35, sold 50 per box, and treats them as a separate purchase, so order a box with the machine. Loose strips take up more room than cross-cut particles, so a busy department will change bags more often than the sheet count suggests. The casters make it easy to roll the cabinet out to a service corridor for emptying.

Is the 300.2 S5 right for you?

It fits a print room, warehouse office or department that destroys lots of internal paper and wants one sturdy, mobile machine with TAA compliance for public-sector buying. Look elsewhere if your shredding includes regulated personal data, or if you want a compact bin that never needs a liner.
