Description

The KOBRA 300.2 S4 is the bulk-disposal machine of this range: 3.8 mm strips, 31 to 33 sheets a pass, a 900 W continuous-duty motor and a 150-litre cabinet, with an Oil-Free System that means it has no consumable at all beyond waste bags. Nothing else here gets rid of ordinary paper faster or with less attention. What it does not do is protect data — a 3.8 mm strip is DIN 66399 level P-2.

Two things separate this machine from the 300.1 S4 that shares its cutting head, and both matter more in a high-volume setting than they do on paper. The first is the motor: 900 W rather than 600 W is what keeps the sheet rate from sagging over a long session. The second is the bin, and on a strip-cut machine bin volume is the real constraint, because strip waste traps air and never settles the way cross-cut waste does. A 150-litre cabinet is the difference between changing a bag once a day and changing it three times.

Key Features

  • 31–33 sheets a pass at 70 g/m², the highest sheet capacity of any machine in this group.
  • Oil-Free System. The cutting knives need no routine lubrication, so there is no oil to buy, store or forget.
  • 900 W 24-hour continuous duty motor with thermal protection and no timed cool-down interval, which is what sustains that sheet rate through a long purge.
  • 150-litre cabinet on casters — important on a strip-cut machine, because strip waste is bulky and fills a bin faster than cross-cut waste.
  • 3.8 mm strip, rated P-2 O-2 T-2 E-2 under ISO/IEC 21964.
  • Handles optical media and cards: CDs, DVDs, Blu-ray discs, credit cards, chip cards and floppy disks in addition to paper.
  • Carbon-hardened steel knives on a metal chain drive, rated by Kobra as unaffected by staples and paper clips.
  • Energy Smart standby, auto start/stop, automatic reverse and a safety stop on door opening or full bin.

What's in the Box

The machine arrives assembled on its caster-mounted steel cabinet with the power cord and operating manual. Waste bags are not included. Because this is a strip-cut model running Kobra's Oil-Free System, you do not need to stock shredder oil for it.

Who Should Buy This — and Who Should Not

Buy the 300.2 S4 for volume: print rooms, distribution centres, schools, membership organisations and any operation that produces a great deal of paper that nobody would care about reading. Between the oil-free head, the continuous-duty motor and the 150-litre bin, the only recurring task is changing bags.

Do not buy it for confidential records. P-2 strips keep whole lines of text intact and will not satisfy a privacy or records-destruction policy, however fast the machine is. If any of the paper carries personal data, the KOBRA 300.2 C4 is the same cabinet and motor at P-4 and still manages 25 to 27 sheets a pass; the KOBRA 300.2 C2 reaches P-5 at 16 to 18. If your volume does not justify a 111 cm cabinet, the KOBRA 300.1 S4 has the same 3.8 mm oil-free head in a shorter, quieter unit at 27 to 29 sheets a pass.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is P-2 good enough for confidential paperwork?

No. P-2 sits near the bottom of the DIN 66399 scale and is meant for internal documents whose disclosure would be awkward rather than harmful. A 3.8 mm strip leaves complete lines of text readable along its length, so patient reconstruction is possible. Use this machine for superseded print runs, packing documents and general office paper. Anything with names, account numbers or health information belongs in a P-4 or P-5 machine.

How does it compare with the 300.1 S4?

Same 3.8 mm oil-free cutting head, larger everything else. The 300.2 runs a 900 W motor against 600 W, holds 150 litres against 110, and stands 111 cm tall against 92 cm, which lifts sheet capacity from 27 to 29 up to 31 to 33 at 70 g/m2. It is also slightly louder at 60 dB(A) against 55. Choose the 300.2 if bag changes and queueing are your problem; choose the 300.1 if space and noise are.

Does it need oil?

No. The 300.2 S4 uses Kobra's Oil-Free System, so the cutting knives require no routine lubrication and there is no oil consumable to stock. That is one of the main practical arguments for strip cut in a high-volume setting: the only recurring supply item is waste bags. If the machine has stood unused for a long period or has ingested adhesive labels, arrange a service rather than adding oil yourself.

How often will the 40-gallon bin need emptying?

Often, if you are using the machine as intended. Strip-cut waste is springy and traps air, so even a 150-litre cabinet fills quickly when you are running 30-plus sheets a pass. In a print room expect to change bags every day or two. Pressing the waste down before the fill sensor trips recovers useful capacity. Bags are not supplied with the machine, so order a stock sized for a 150-litre cabinet.

Can it shred CDs, cards and floppy disks?

Yes. Kobra lists paper, credit cards, chip cards, CDs, DVDs, Blu-ray discs and floppy disks for this model. Feed hard media one item at a time and not mixed into a full paper stack. Bear in mind the output is P-2-sized: a disc comes out destroyed as a playable object, but this is not the level of destruction a classified or regulated media policy would accept.

Is the 300.2 S4 NSA approved?

No. NSA/CSS Specification 02-01 requires a particle no larger than 1 mm x 5 mm and the specific model has to appear on the NSA Evaluated Products List for Paper Shredders. The 300.2 S4 cuts at 3.8 mm strips and is rated P-2, so it does not meet either condition and must not be used to destroy classified national security information. Kobra's models that are on the current EPL include the 300 HS-6 and the 270 TS HS-6, both of which cut 0.8 x 5 mm.

What warranty covers this machine in the US?

We do not publish a US warranty term on this page because Kobra's US warranty is set by the importing distributor rather than printed on the factory datasheet. Kobra's UK distributor publishes two years on the machine and ten years on the cutting blades (parts only) for this chassis, which is a reasonable guide to the factory position but not a US commitment. Ask us for the warranty document that ships with your unit before you order, and we will send the current terms in writing.
