KOBRA 300.1 S5

The KOBRA 300.1 S5 is a P-2 strip-cut shredder that cuts 5.8 mm strips at 30-32 sheets per pass, the highest capacity on KOBRA's 300.1 cabinet, with a 29-gallon (110-liter) bin and an oil-free head. It is built for print rooms, school offices and admin desks that dispose of large amounts of low-sensitivity paper and want the lowest running cost on this chassis.

What a 5.8 mm strip is good for

DIN 66399 draws the P-2 line for strip cut at 6 mm, and the S5's 5.8 mm strip sits just inside it. P-1 and P-2 exist for material that simply should not be readable in a recycling bin: duplicate print runs, internal drafts, outdated schedules. They are not designed to resist someone determined to reassemble a page, and individual 5.8 mm strips still carry legible text. The S5's strengths are pace and simplicity, not secrecy.

The wider strip is also why it is quick. The S5 asks less of the shared 600 W motor than the 3.8 mm S4 head, so it gets through a few more sheets on each pass. Planning with US 20 lb bond, which falls between KOBRA's two test weights, puts realistic capacity somewhere between the 70 and 80 g/m² figures.

Running the 300.1 S5 day to day

With KOBRA's Oil-Free System, there is no oiling routine to forget, which sets the S5 apart from the C2 and C4 on the same cabinet. The motor is rated for 24-hour continuous duty with thermal protection, and the carbon-hardened knives, on a steel-geared chain drive, take staples and paper clips. Energy Smart standby, automatic start and stop, automatic reverse and a door-open or bin-full safety stop round out the package.

Strip waste is bulky and traps air, so the 110-liter bin fills faster per sheet than it would behind a cross-cut head. Bags are not included. Feed discs and cards one at a time; the P-2 head leaves them unusable rather than securely destroyed.

Pick it for high-volume, low-risk paper where you want a large bin, no consumables beyond bags, and a cabinet only 20.9 in wide. Keep regulated records away from it: P-2 will not satisfy a credible destruction policy for personal data, and the C4 or C2 on the same cabinet are the machines for that.
