KOBRA 300.1 S4

The KOBRA 300.1 S4 is a P-2 strip-cut shredder that slices paper into 3.8 mm strips at 27-29 sheets per pass, feeding a 29-gallon (110-liter) floor-standing cabinet through a 12.2 in (310 mm) opening. Its cutting head uses KOBRA's Oil-Free System, so there is no lubrication to schedule. It is meant for offices clearing large amounts of non-sensitive paper, not for personal or financial records.

What a 3.8 mm strip is good for, and where it stops

P-2 sits near the bottom of the DIN 66399 scale. A strip runs the full length of the sheet, so lines of text survive along each piece; rebuilding a page is tedious but possible. That is acceptable for superseded print runs, delivery notes, outdated catalogs and meeting packs, and it is why the S4 moves so much paper per pass. It is not acceptable for anything carrying names, account numbers, health or financial details.

How the oil-free head cuts upkeep on the 300.1 S4

On a shared shredder that nobody owns, oiling the cutters is the job that gets skipped. The 300.1 S4 removes it, along with the need to keep oil in stock, which sets it apart from the 300.1 C2 and C4 on the same chassis.

Drive, safety and day-to-day handling

• Drivetrain. A metal chain and steel gears turn carbon-hardened steel knives that are unaffected by staples and clips. The motor has thermal protection and no timed cool-down.
• Controls and safety. Automatic start and stop, automatic reverse and Energy Smart standby; the cutters halt when the door is opened or the bin is full.
• Cabinet. Delivered assembled on a steel cabinet with casters, with the power cord and operating manual.
• Bags. Not included, so order a supply sized for a 110-liter cabinet. Strip waste is springy, and pressing it down before the sensor trips gains real space.

Choose it when the challenge is the quantity of paper rather than its sensitivity: a print room, warehouse office or marketing team clearing boxes of obsolete material. Anyone handling personal or regulated data should skip strip cut and look at the 300.1 C4 or C2, and classified government material needs an NSA-listed high-security model.
