The intimus 175 CP5 (part 297144) is a floor-standing P-5 shredder that cuts paper into 1.9 x 15 mm particles and still accepts up to 26 sheets per pass through a 16 in (405 mm) opening. It shares the 175-liter (46.25-gallon) cabinet and 1,100 W drive of the 175 range. It is built for organizations where a whole department, not just one desk, has to meet a P-5 disposal requirement.

Making P-5 practical at department scale

Most P-5 shredders are slow enough that people leave paper beside them for later. The 175 CP5 avoids that: 26 sheets per pass is more than double what the deskside 45 CP5 takes, and intimus North America rates the machine at up to 605 sheets per minute. The particle is 28.5 mm², inside the 30 mm² P-5 limit, and intimus certifies the head as P-5, O-4, T-5, F-2 and E-4. The wide throat also matters more at P-5, since folding oversize sheets would eat into an already reduced pass capacity.

The trade-off within the 175 family is clear. The P-4 175 CP4 takes up to 43 sheets per pass on the same frame, so choose this model only when P-5 is actually required.

Setting it up and keeping it running

The 175 CP5 needs 120 V single-phase power on its own 20 A circuit, and at 198 lb (90 kg) it should be placed where it will stay. The i-Control switch and dynamic load sensing guide users toward the right stack size, and the cabinet runs at 54 dB(A) when idle. Bags are not supplied; size liners for the 46.25-gallon bin. The automatic oiler is an option on this model, and lubrication is required either way under the intimus warranty terms.

Which 175 model, or a smaller P-5?

• intimus 175 CP4: 4 x 40 mm at P-4 with up to 43 sheets per pass. Much faster if P-4 satisfies your obligations.
• intimus 175 CP7: 0.8 x 4.5 mm at P-7, up to 9 sheets per pass, for classified paper, with a shorter high-security warranty.
• intimus 120 CP5: the same 1.9 x 15 mm cut in a smaller cabinet, with up to 15 sheets per pass and a 120-liter bin.

Who the 175 CP5 is for

It is for a department or floor that must comply with a written P-5 policy and wants one machine people will actually use. A single user needing P-5 is better served by the 45 CP5. A P-5 rating does not establish NSA compliance, so classified work belongs on the 175 CP7.
