Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between part 297134P1 and part 297134?
The shredder is the same machine: intimus 175 CP4, 4 x 40 mm, P-4, 405 mm feed opening, 175-litre bin. Part 297134P1 adds the factory automatic oiler package, which lubricates the cutting cylinders without anyone remembering to do it. Part 297134 is the same shredder with the oiler left as an option. If the machine will be shared across a floor with no single owner, the oiler version is the one to buy.
Does the automatic oiler mean no maintenance at all?
No. It automates the single most important and most-skipped task, but you still have to refill the oil reservoir, empty the bin, and keep the feed opening and sensors clear of paper dust. intimus's warranty terms make lubrication a condition of coverage, so the oiler protects you against the most common warranty dispute — it does not remove the need for basic upkeep or for the periodic service any departmental shredder needs.
What oil does the automatic system use?
intimus cutting-block oil, which is sold separately in 100 ml, 1 litre, 2 litre and 5 litre containers. Use the manufacturer's oil rather than a generic substitute in an automatic system: aerosol lubricants and vegetable oils leave residue that hardens between the cutters and can block the delivery line. Refill intervals depend on duty; check the reservoir at every bin change so that a low reservoir never coincides with a heavy shredding day.
Can I add an oiler to a 175 CP4 I already own?
intimus lists the automatic oiler as an option for the 175 CP4 rather than as a field kit with a published retrofit procedure, and we cannot confirm from intimus's published data whether an existing machine can be upgraded in place. If you already own part 297134 and want the oiler, contact us with the machine's serial number before ordering anything, and we will check the current retrofit position with intimus North America rather than guess.
Will tabloid paper fit, and can it take staples?
Yes to both. The feed opening is 405 mm (16 in), so tabloid and ledger sheets at 11 in wide feed flat without folding. The rated material list covers paper with staples and paper clips, CD / DVD / Blu-ray discs, plastic cards, floppy disks and foil. Ring binder mechanisms and bulldog clips are not on that list and should be removed before feeding.
What power supply does it need?
120 V single phase at 60 Hz on a dedicated 20 A circuit, per intimus North America, driving an 1,100 W motor. Put it on its own circuit. A departmental shredder drawing starting current on a shared circuit will trip breakers, and repeated hard restarts shorten drive life. Sort the outlet before delivery — the machine weighs 198 lb and is not something you want to move twice.
