Description

This is the intimus 175 CP4 supplied with the factory automatic oiler package. The shredder itself is identical to part 297134 — a 4 x 40 mm P-4 cross-cut machine with a 405 mm feed opening and a 175-litre bin — but the cutting cylinders are lubricated automatically instead of by hand. On a machine shared by ten or more people, that is not a convenience feature; it is the difference between a warranty that holds and one that does not.

Key Features

  • Automatic lubrication of the cutting cylinders. intimus North America's warranty document states plainly that cross-cut shredders require regular cylinder lubrication and that neglecting it may void the warranty. Manual oiling is the maintenance task most often skipped on a shared machine, because nobody owns it.
  • Same P-4 cut as the standard 175 CP4: 4 x 40 mm, a 160 mm² particle, right at the DIN 66399 P-4 limit.
  • Up to 43 sheets a pass at 80 g/m², with intimus North America quoting up to 50 sheets a pass and up to 1,110 sheets per minute on lighter US stock.
  • 405 mm (16 in) feed opening — tabloid, ledger and unsquared file folders go in flat.
  • 175-litre (46.25 gallon) bin on castors, sized for a whole floor rather than a single desk.
  • 54 dB(A) at idle, quiet enough for an open-plan area.
  • Lifetime limited cutting-cylinder warranty against fracture under intimus's commercial shredder terms — the terms the oiler helps you keep.

What's in the Box

Machine on castors, 175-litre bin, power cord and the automatic oiler package. Bin liners are not included and intimus does not publish a bag part number for the 175 series on its North American site, so size liners to the 46.25-gallon bin. Refill oil for the automatic system is a consumable and is ordered separately; intimus supplies cutting-block oil in 100 ml, 1 litre, 2 litre and 5 litre containers.

Who Should Buy This — and Who Should Not

Buy it if the machine will be shared and unowned. Departmental shredders fail for maintenance reasons far more often than mechanical ones, and the failure mode is always the same: nobody oiled it. If your facilities team is stretched, or the shredder sits on a floor with no designated caretaker, buy the oiler version and stop thinking about it.

Do not buy it if you already have a maintenance routine that works, or the machine will sit with one records officer who will oil it at every bin change. In that case the standard intimus 175 CP4 (part 297134) is the identical shredder for less money. Do not buy either version if you need P-5 or P-7 — the 175 CP5 and the NSA-listed 175 CP7 use the same chassis at finer cuts, and the 175 CP7 already includes a built-in automatic oiler as standard.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between part 297134P1 and part 297134?

The shredder is the same machine: intimus 175 CP4, 4 x 40 mm, P-4, 405 mm feed opening, 175-litre bin. Part 297134P1 adds the factory automatic oiler package, which lubricates the cutting cylinders without anyone remembering to do it. Part 297134 is the same shredder with the oiler left as an option. If the machine will be shared across a floor with no single owner, the oiler version is the one to buy.

Does the automatic oiler mean no maintenance at all?

No. It automates the single most important and most-skipped task, but you still have to refill the oil reservoir, empty the bin, and keep the feed opening and sensors clear of paper dust. intimus's warranty terms make lubrication a condition of coverage, so the oiler protects you against the most common warranty dispute — it does not remove the need for basic upkeep or for the periodic service any departmental shredder needs.

What oil does the automatic system use?

intimus cutting-block oil, which is sold separately in 100 ml, 1 litre, 2 litre and 5 litre containers. Use the manufacturer's oil rather than a generic substitute in an automatic system: aerosol lubricants and vegetable oils leave residue that hardens between the cutters and can block the delivery line. Refill intervals depend on duty; check the reservoir at every bin change so that a low reservoir never coincides with a heavy shredding day.

Can I add an oiler to a 175 CP4 I already own?

intimus lists the automatic oiler as an option for the 175 CP4 rather than as a field kit with a published retrofit procedure, and we cannot confirm from intimus's published data whether an existing machine can be upgraded in place. If you already own part 297134 and want the oiler, contact us with the machine's serial number before ordering anything, and we will check the current retrofit position with intimus North America rather than guess.

Will tabloid paper fit, and can it take staples?

Yes to both. The feed opening is 405 mm (16 in), so tabloid and ledger sheets at 11 in wide feed flat without folding. The rated material list covers paper with staples and paper clips, CD / DVD / Blu-ray discs, plastic cards, floppy disks and foil. Ring binder mechanisms and bulldog clips are not on that list and should be removed before feeding.

What power supply does it need?

120 V single phase at 60 Hz on a dedicated 20 A circuit, per intimus North America, driving an 1,100 W motor. Put it on its own circuit. A departmental shredder drawing starting current on a shared circuit will trip breakers, and repeated hard restarts shorten drive life. Sort the outlet before delivery — the machine weighs 198 lb and is not something you want to move twice.
