How many sheets does the intimus 175 CP4 really take per pass?
Both published figures are correct; they describe different paper. intimus's international datasheet gives up to 43 sheets at 80 g/m2, the European standard test weight. intimus North America quotes up to 50 sheets per pass, measured on lighter US stock, along with up to 1,110 sheets per minute. When you compare this machine against another brand, make sure both figures are quoted at the same paper weight — a 70 g/m2 rating typically reads about 15 percent higher than an 80 g/m2 one.
Will tabloid or ledger paper fit?
Yes. The feed opening is 405 mm (16 in), so tabloid and ledger sheets at 11 in wide go in flat, as do letter, legal and A4 in any orientation that fits within 16 in. This is the main practical reason to choose a 175-series machine over a deskside unit: nobody has to fold oversize drawings, spreadsheets or plan sheets before shredding them, and folded paper eats into sheet capacity.
Can it shred staples, paper clips, CDs and cards?
Yes to all four. intimus rates the 175 CP4 for paper with staples and paper clips, CD / DVD / Blu-ray discs, plastic cards, floppy disks and foil. That is the broadest material list in the 175 range — the P-7 version of this chassis is rated only for paper with staples and foil. Ring binder mechanisms, bulldog clips and laminated pouches should still be removed; they are not on the rated list.
Does it come with an automatic oiler?
Not on this part number. The automatic oiler is an option on the 175 CP4, and intimus sells a factory oiler package under part 297134P1. If you buy the machine without it, someone has to oil the cutting cylinders by hand at every bin change. intimus North America's warranty terms state that failing to lubricate a cross-cut shredder may void coverage, so on a machine shared by a whole floor the oiler package is usually worth the difference.
What electrical supply does it need?
120 V, single phase, 60 Hz, on a dedicated 20 A circuit according to intimus North America. The motor is rated 1,100 W. The dedicated circuit matters: a 175-series shredder starting under load on a circuit shared with a copier or a kitchen appliance will trip the breaker, and repeated hard restarts are hard on the drive. Confirm the outlet before delivery, because this is a 198 lb machine to reposition afterwards.
How often will the 46-gallon bin need emptying?
For a floor of ten or more people generating ordinary confidential paper, expect roughly weekly. The bin is 175 litres (46.25 US gallons), which is around four times the volume of a deskside cabinet. intimus does not publish a sheet-count figure for the 175 bin, so treat any specific number you see with caution. Empty before waste reaches the bin lip; cross-cut particles bridge and pack back into the cutting chamber if left.
Is 4 x 40 mm genuinely P-4?
Yes, but exactly at the limit. DIN 66399 caps P-4 particles at 160 mm2, and 4 x 40 mm is 160 mm2 precisely. intimus certifies the machine as P-4 / O-3 / T-4 / F-1 / E-3 under ISO/IEC 21964. Because there is no margin, keeping the cutting cylinders sharp and lubricated matters more here than on a machine that clears its level comfortably. If you need headroom against the standard, the 175 CP5 at 1.9 x 15 mm is the next step.
