The intimus 60 CP5 (279174S1) is a P-5 micro-cut shredder that turns paper into 1.9 x 15 mm particles, takes up to 12 sheets per pass and stores the waste in a 60-liter (16-gallon) bin. It shares its cabinet with the 60 CP4 but uses a much finer cutting head. It is the model to choose when a small team destroys modest volumes of highly sensitive records, such as payroll, medical notes or legal correspondence, and needs the higher security level.

What changes when you move from P-4 to P-5

A P-5 particle may not exceed 30 mm² under DIN 66399. At 28.5 mm² the 60 CP5 qualifies, with ratings of P-5, T-5, F-2 and E-4. Compared with the 3.8 x 30 mm cut of the CP4, each piece is about a quarter of the size, which makes reassembly far less practical.

Two things change as a result. Capacity falls from 17 sheets per pass to 12, because the same 395 W motor is doing more cutting. And the approved materials list gets shorter: CDs, DVDs and Blu-ray discs are off the list, leaving paper with staples and paper clips, plastic cards and foil. One thing improves: denser waste means the 60-liter bin holds about 1,500 sheets, compared with around 1,230 on the CP4.

Running a P-5 head well

A fine head is less forgiving of over-thick stacks, so feed steadily rather than in handfuls. Auto start and stop, auto-reverse, and indicators for standby, bin full, door open and jams help occasional users. Empty the bin when the bin-full light comes on, and oil the head at each emptying; P-5 cutters cope worse with running dry than coarser ones. Liners are not included, so order 60-liter bags.

Who should buy the 60 CP5

Buy it if a regulator, contract or internal policy specifies P-5 and a few people share the machine. Look elsewhere if you need to shred CDs or DVDs on the same unit, if sheet throughput is your main concern, or if the material is classified, which calls for the 60 CP7.
