KOBRA 270 TS S5

The KOBRA 270 TS S5 is the fastest shredder on Kobra's 270 TS touch-screen chassis, cutting 30-32 sheets of 70 g/m² paper per pass into 5.8 mm strips. Those strips are rated P-2 under DIN 66399, the widest cut in the family. It is built for print rooms, logistics offices and schools that need to clear large volumes of non-sensitive paper quickly.

Reading the S5 sheet figures

Kobra quotes two capacities for each 270 TS model, one at 70 g/m² and one at 80 g/m², and the gap is wide. US 20 lb bond is roughly 75 g/m², between the two, so a realistic planning figure for an American office is about 27-29 sheets per pass rather than the headline 32. Glossy, heavy or folded paper lowers it further.

Where the extra speed comes from

Wider strips mean fewer knife edges engage each sheet, so the same 500 W motor that pushes 27-29 sheets through the S4 manages 30-32 here and 24-26 on the P-4 C4 AO. The cost is larger fragments: a 5.8 mm strip leaves plenty of readable text. With no lubrication schedule and no oil to buy, the S5 suits a machine shared by people who will not maintain it. A separate cutter takes optical discs, cards and floppy disks so they never touch the paper knives.

Everyday handling

Strip waste is bulky and springy, so the 29-gallon bin fills with fewer sheets than it would with cross-cut waste; pressing it down before the bin-full sensor trips buys extra room. The touch panel has LED indicators, and a five-second press on Forward runs the machine for 30 seconds to feed film. Standby comes on after eight seconds, and the unit disconnects from the mains after four hours idle. Auto start and stop, auto reverse and door and bin safety stops are standard, and the cabinet rolls on casters.

For a tidier strip with little lost speed, the KOBRA 270 TS S4 cuts 3.8 mm at 27-29 sheets. For personal data, the KOBRA 270 TS C4 AO gives P-4 cross cut on the same chassis, and the KOBRA 270 TS HS-6 AO handles classified paper at P-7. If the bin is your bottleneck, the KOBRA 300.2 S4 has a 40-gallon cabinet.

Who should buy the 270 TS S5

Buy it where the measure of success is how fast paper disappears and nothing in the stack is regulated. Avoid it for any records-destruction or privacy policy; P-2 will not satisfy one.
