KOBRA 270 TS S4

The KOBRA 270 TS S4 is a touch-screen strip-cut shredder that slices paper into 3.8 mm strips at 27-29 sheets of 70 g/m² per pass, rated P-2 under DIN 66399. It shares the 270 TS chassis, with its 12.2 in throat and 29-gallon bin, with the S5, C4 AO and HS-6 AO, and differs only in its cutting head. It suits offices that dispose of a lot of routine paper and want narrower strips than the S5 produces.

Choosing a cutting head on the 270 TS chassis

All four 270 TS models share the motor, cabinet, throat, bin and touch panel, so the decision is really about the head. The S4 head is the balance point for strip cut: narrow enough that text breaks across more strips than with the 5.8 mm S5, while giving up only a few sheets per pass. Both remain P-2, meaning they are for internal drafts, memos and superseded printouts, not regulated records.

Low-maintenance by design

The S4 uses Kobra's oil-free strip-cut arrangement, so there is no reservoir to fill and no oiling step for staff to forget. If the machine has swallowed something sticky, such as label backing, have a technician service it rather than pouring oil into the throat. Carbon-hardened knives take staples and paper clips. The 500 W motor is rated for continuous 24-hour use with thermal protection, and the machine reverses on jams and stops if the door opens or the bin is full. Holding Forward for five seconds gives 30 seconds of continuous running for transparent film, and Energy Smart standby engages after eight seconds, with mains disconnection after four hours.

Is it the right machine?

It is a good shared floor machine for drafts, internal memos, superseded print runs and packing lists, running quietly at 54-55 dB(A) with almost no upkeep beyond emptying the bin. It is the wrong machine for personal, financial or health records, which need at least P-4.
