Is a strip cut secure enough for confidential documents?
No, and you should not buy this machine expecting it to be. A 3.8 mm strip is DIN 66399 P-2, which leaves complete lines of text readable on each strip and is reconstructible with patience. P-4 is the normal floor for personal or client data. Use the 260 TS S4 for bulk non-sensitive paper and put anything regulated through a cross-cut or micro-cut machine such as the 260 TS C4 AO or C2 AO.
How much faster is it than the cross-cut versions?
Meaningfully. At 80 gsm the S4 takes 21-23 sheets against 17-19 for the P-4 C4 and 10-12 for the P-5 C2, from the same 3/4 HP motor. Strip cutting simply asks less of the head. If you are clearing archive boxes of non-sensitive paper, the difference over an afternoon is substantial; if you are destroying twenty client files a day it is irrelevant next to the security level.
Does it handle staples and paper clips?
Staples pass through without special handling. Paper clips are better removed - a strip-cut head tolerates them better than a micro-cut head does, but they still nick the knives and can wedge a strip in the clearance. Ring binders, plastic sleeves and laminated sheets should be kept out entirely; they are not among the materials Kobra rates the machine for.
Can it destroy CDs and old floppy disks?
Yes, through the separate cutting unit with its own 123 mm throat and bin. Kobra rates that unit at O-1 for optical media on this model, which breaks discs into large fragments - enough to prevent normal reuse or casual recovery, but not fine destruction. Never feed a disc into the paper throat; that is what damages paper knives.
How often will the bin fill up?
Faster than the sheet count implies. Strip-cut waste is bulky and springy - it does not settle the way cross-cut or micro-cut waste does - so the 80-litre (22-gallon) bin will need changing more frequently per sheet destroyed than on the C2 or C4. In heavy bulk-clearance use, expect to change the bag several times a week. The bin-full interlock stops the machine before waste backs into the head.
