KOBRA 260.1 S4

The KOBRA 260.1 S4 is the volume machine of the Classic Line 260.1 pair. Where the 260.1 S2 trades speed for a finer 1.9 mm strip, the S4 opens the knife to 3.8 mm and takes 22-24 sheets a pass at 80 gsm in a taller cabinet with an 80-litre bin. It also handles CDs, DVDs, Blu-ray discs and floppy disks, which the S2 does not. The cost of all that is the security level: 3.8 mm strips are DIN 66399 P-2.

What's in the Box

Arrives assembled on castors with the 80-litre bin fitted. Waste bags are consumables and are not included. Kobra excludes damage from inadequate lubrication from its warranty terms, so keep a bottle of shredder oil with the machine even though a strip head is less demanding than a cross-cut one.

Who Should Buy This - and Who Should Not

Buy the 260.1 S4 for high-volume disposal of routine paperwork in a small or medium office - internal drafts, print overruns, obsolete forms, packing documents - where you also want somewhere to destroy old discs. At 64 lb and 55 dB(A) it is easy to site and easy to live with.

Do not buy it for regulated data. A 3.8 mm strip leaves whole lines legible, and P-2 is well below the P-4 that commercial privacy practice expects for client, HR or medical records. If that is your use case, the 260 TS C4 AO gives P-4 with an automatic oiler and a touch-screen panel. If you want a strip cut but a real step up in security, the 260.1 S2 reaches P-3 at 1.9 mm and runs oil-free, at the cost of roughly half the sheet capacity and a smaller 60-litre bin. And if you need a touch-screen interface and separate paper and plastic bins, that is the 260 TS S4.

Ownership and Running Costs

Bags are the recurring cost here. Strip waste does not compact, so the 80-litre bin fills by volume rather than by weight and a busy office will get through liners quickly. Shredder oil is the other item worth keeping in stock. Power consumption is trivial - the motor only draws under load and the machine drops to standby when idle.
