Authorized intimus dealer New stock through the manufacturer's authorized channel, with the manufacturer's own warranty · what this covers

Description

The intimus 120 CP4 is the middle cabinet in intimus's commercial office range and the one most departments end up with: a P-4 cross-cut head rated at 25 sheets a pass, a 310 mm throat and a 120-litre bin, all in a 54 x 40 x 98 cm cabinet on castors. This SKU (227124P1) is the configuration supplied with the intimus automatic oiler package.

The oiler is the whole argument for this SKU over the plain 227154S1. Cross-cut cutting cylinders have to be lubricated, intimus makes that a written condition of warranty coverage, and on a machine shared by twenty people nobody owns the oil bottle. Automating it protects the lifetime limited cutting-cylinder warranty that comes with intimus's commercial tier and keeps the head cutting cleanly at full stack thickness.

Key Features

  • Automatic oiler package included — lubrication happens as part of running the machine, not as a chore someone has to remember. This is the single functional difference from SKU 227154S1.
  • 3.8 x 36 mm cross-cut particles — 136.8 mm², against the 160 mm² that DIN 66399 permits at P-4. The margin matters if an auditor ever measures your output.
  • 25 sheets a pass at 80 g/m2 — enough that users feed handfuls rather than singles, which is the real determinant of whether a shredder gets used.
  • 310 mm (12.2 in) intake — US Letter and A4 feed unfolded in either orientation; legal and tabloid go in lengthwise only.
  • 120-litre bin — 20 litres more than the intimus 100 chassis in a cabinet only 8 cm taller, which is the cheapest way to cut bag changes without changing footprint.
  • Sealed cabinet on castors — damps cutter noise and lets one person move the machine between rooms.
  • i-Control smart switch — automatic start on paper detection, automatic stop, and a sleep mode so the unit is not drawing power between users.
  • Dynamic load sensor — front-panel indication of how much of the cutting head's capacity the current stack uses, which is what stops habitual over-feeding.
  • Automatic reverse — clears an over-thick feed without anyone reaching into the throat.
  • Made in Germany, CE and UKCA marked — intimus builds the 120 chassis on the same cutting-cylinder platform across every security level, so parts and service are common across the range.

What's in the Box

Supplied as one assembled cabinet on castors with its pull-out bin. intimus does not publish a piece-by-piece packing list for this SKU and we are not going to guess at one. Plan separately for waste bags, which are a consumable and are not included, and for cutting-cylinder lubricant — the warranty policy makes lubrication a condition of coverage.

Who Should Buy This — and Who Should Not

This is the default choice for a busy department: fifteen to thirty people, a mixed diet of contracts, invoices, HR files and customer records, and a policy that specifies P-4. The 120-litre bin is the reason to pick it over the intimus 100 CP4, which is the identical cutting head in a 100-litre cabinet.

It is the wrong machine in three cases. If your work touches material classified above ordinary commercial confidence, P-4 is not enough and you want the intimus 120 CP5 (1.9 x 15 mm, P-5) or the intimus 120 CP7 (0.8 x 4.5 mm, P-7, NSA/CSS listed) — same chassis, same throat, lower sheet capacity. If bag changes are your pain point rather than security, the intimus 130 CP4 gives you 135 litres for a taller cabinet. And if you are trying to serve an entire floor or destroy archive backlogs by the pallet, no cabinet office shredder is the right tool; that is industrial territory, and the intimus 16.50 is the machine that answers it.

Specifications above are taken from the intimus per-model datasheet and the intimus North America warranty policy. Where a figure is not published by intimus we have left the row out rather than estimate it.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the 227124P1 and the 227154S1?

Nothing mechanical. Both are intimus 120 CP4 machines with the same 3.8 x 36 mm P-4 cutting head, 310 mm throat, 120-litre bin and 25-sheet rating. The 227124P1 is supplied with intimus's automatic oiler package; the 227154S1 is not. On a shared departmental machine the oiler usually pays for itself, because intimus's warranty policy makes cylinder lubrication a condition of coverage and manual oiling is the maintenance task offices skip most reliably.

Can it shred CDs, credit cards and staples?

Yes to all three. intimus rates this head for paper with staples and paper clips, CD/DVD/Blu-ray, plastic cards, floppy disks and foil. The important caveat is that media and cards are rated for intermittent use - feed them between paper runs rather than putting a whole box of discs through consecutively. Ring binders, binder clips and laminated pouches are not rated and should be stripped out before feeding.

Is a P-4 shredder enough for GDPR or HIPAA compliance?

For most organisations, yes. P-4 under DIN 66399 covers data whose disclosure would have a serious effect on the organisation, which is where ordinary personal, medical and financial records sit. Neither GDPR nor HIPAA names a DIN level directly - both require destruction that makes reconstruction impracticable, and P-4 is the level most retention policies and destruction contracts settle on. If your own policy or a client contract specifies P-5, the 120 CP5 is the direct swap.

Will legal, tabloid or A3 paper fit?

The intake is 310 mm (12.2 in). US Letter fits in either orientation and A4 fits unfolded. Legal (8.5 x 14 in) and tabloid (11 x 17 in) will only pass if fed lengthwise so that the short edge enters first. A3 fed on its short edge (297 mm) just fits. Anything genuinely wider than 12.2 in has to be folded, and a fold counts as two sheets against the capacity rating, so plan batch sizes accordingly.

How often will the bin need emptying?

The bin is 120 litres, about 31.75 US gallons. Cross-cut and micro-cut waste is airy, so a 120-litre bin holds substantially less paper by weight than the same volume of intact documents - and the finer the cut, the faster the bin fills for the same input. A department putting through a couple of copier boxes a week will typically change the bag once or twice weekly. If you are emptying daily, look at the intimus 130 chassis, which offers 135 litres.

Can I move this between floors myself?

It is on castors and weighs 45 kg, so one person can roll it across level floor and reposition it without a trolley. Getting it up or down stairs is a two-person job or a lift job - 45 kg in a 98 cm cabinet is awkward rather than heavy. The castors are intended for repositioning on a flat surface, not for being wheeled over thresholds and cable runs all day.

Does the cutting head need oiling?

Yes. intimus North America's warranty policy states that all cross-cut shredders require lubrication of the cutting cylinders in accordance with the operator's manual, and that failing to do so may null and void the warranty. Under-lubricated cylinders also grip paper poorly, which is the usual root cause when a machine that used to take a full stack starts jamming at half of it. Some SKUs in this range ship with an automatic oiler package; check the exact SKU you are ordering.
