Description

The intimus 130 CP4 is the biggest-binned cabinet in intimus's commercial office range: a 135-litre waste container under the same P-4, 3.8 x 36 mm cutting head used by the 100 and 120, in a 54 x 40 x 110 cm cabinet on castors. SKU 225254P1 is the build supplied with the intimus automatic oiler package, which pairs logically with the large bin: a machine you empty less often is a machine people think about less often, and manual oiling is exactly the task that gets forgotten on it.

intimus North America's warranty policy is explicit that cross-cut cutting cylinders must be lubricated per the operator's manual and that skipping it may void coverage — including the lifetime limited warranty against cylinder fracture that comes with the commercial tier. The oiler package takes that risk off the office's to-do list.

Key Features

  • Automatic oiler package included — the cutting cylinders are lubricated in the course of normal running. This is the only functional difference from SKU 225154, and on a high-volume machine it is the difference between coverage that holds and coverage that lapses.
  • 135-litre bin — the largest in intimus's commercial cabinet range. Against the 100-litre intimus 100 that is 35% more waste per bag change, for 20 cm of extra cabinet height and 2 kg of extra weight.
  • 3.8 x 36 mm cross-cut, DIN 66399 P-4 — 136.8 mm² particles against a 160 mm² class limit, with the full intimus rating P-4 / O-3 / T-4 / F-1 / E-3 covering optical, magnetic and electronic media too.
  • Up to 25 sheets a pass at 80 g/m2 — the same cutting head as the 100 CP4 and 120 CP4, so throughput per pass is unchanged; you are buying capacity between emptying, not speed.
  • 310 mm (12.2 in) throat — A4 and US Letter unfolded in either orientation.
  • i-Control smart switch with automatic start/stop and sleep mode — no standby draw between users and no switch to remember.
  • Dynamic load sensor — shows how much of the cutter's capacity the current stack uses, which trains users out of over-feeding faster than any sign on the wall.
  • Automatic reverse for jam clearance — the cutters back out without anyone opening the throat.
  • Sealed cabinet on castors, 56 dB(A) at idle — quiet enough for a working floor, mobile enough for one person to reposition.

What's in the Box

Ships as a single assembled cabinet on castors with its pull-out 135-litre bin. intimus does not publish a component packing list for this SKU, so we are not listing one. Budget separately for waste bags, which are a consumable and are not supplied, and for cutting-cylinder lubricant — intimus makes lubrication a written condition of warranty coverage.

Who Should Buy This — and Who Should Not

The 130 CP4 is for the department that already knows its problem is bag changes. Same cutting head as the 100 and 120, same 25 sheets a pass, same P-4 output — but 135 litres between emptyings instead of 100 or 120. If your shredder currently gets emptied daily and someone complains about it, this is the fix, and it costs you 20 cm of height rather than floor area, because the footprint stays 54 x 40 cm.

It is the wrong purchase if the bin is not your constraint. Buying the 130 in the hope of shredding faster achieves nothing: the intimus 120 CP4 and intimus 100 CP4 run the identical head at the identical rate for less money. It is also wrong if you need a higher security level — the 130 chassis is offered here as a CP4 only, so a P-5 or P-7 requirement sends you to the intimus 120 CP5 or intimus 120 CP7, both of which have smaller bins and lower capacity. And if you are clearing archive backlogs by the pallet rather than shredding day-to-day paper, a cabinet machine of any size is the wrong category; look at the intimus 16.50 or a shredder-baler such as the intimus 14.87.

Specifications above are taken from the intimus per-model datasheet and the intimus North America warranty policy. Where a figure is not published by intimus we have left the row out rather than estimate it.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the oiler package change compared with SKU 225154?

Nothing about how the machine cuts. Both are intimus 130 CP4 shredders: 3.8 x 36 mm P-4 particles, up to 25 sheets a pass, 310 mm throat, 135-litre bin, 46 kg. The 225254P1 adds intimus's automatic oiler package so cutting-cylinder lubrication happens without anyone remembering it. Given that intimus makes lubrication a condition of the lifetime limited cutting-cylinder warranty, the oiler is best thought of as warranty protection rather than a convenience feature.

How much more paper does the 135-litre bin actually hold?

Against the intimus 100's 100-litre bin, 35% more; against the 120's 120-litre bin, about 12% more. In day-to-day terms a department that currently empties a 100-litre bin every day would expect to empty the 130 roughly every day and a half. Cross-cut waste is airy, so the useful comparison is always volume rather than sheet count, and the ratio between bins is the honest way to estimate the change.

Is it faster than the intimus 120 CP4?

No. The 100 CP4, 120 CP4 and 130 CP4 share one cutting head: 3.8 x 36 mm, P-4, up to 25 sheets per pass at 80 g/m2, rated by intimus at up to 680 sheets per minute. The only differences across the three are bin volume, cabinet height and about two kilograms of weight. If throughput per pass is your constraint rather than emptying frequency, moving up the range will not help and you should look at a large-office or industrial class machine instead.

Will it fit under a standard desk or worktop?

Probably not, and it is not designed to. The cabinet is 110 cm (43.3 in) tall - roughly waist height - with a 54 x 40 cm footprint. It is a free-standing floor machine intended to sit beside a print or copy station, not a desk-side unit. The castors mean one person can roll it out of the way, but plan on it occupying its own patch of floor with clearance in front for the bin drawer.

Can it handle staples, paper clips, CDs and plastic cards?

Yes. intimus rates this head for paper with staples and paper clips, CD/DVD/Blu-ray, plastic cards, floppy disks and foil. Media and cards are rated for intermittent use rather than continuous batches, so mix them into paper runs rather than shredding a whole spindle of discs at once. Ring-binder mechanisms and large binder clips are not rated - strip those out, along with laminated documents.

Is P-4 enough, or should I be buying P-5?

P-4 under DIN 66399 covers data whose unauthorised disclosure would have a serious effect on the organisation, which is where the great majority of commercial, personnel and customer records sit. It is the level most retention policies and destruction contracts specify. Move to P-5 when a policy, regulator or client contract names it, or when reconstruction of a document would be genuinely damaging. Do not move up simply for reassurance - P-5 costs you 40% of your sheet capacity.

How loud is it?

intimus rates the 130 CP4 at 56 dB(A) at idle, which is around normal conversation level. The sealed cabinet is doing most of that work. Under load it will be louder, and intimus does not publish a loaded figure so we will not quote one. In practice a cabinet shredder at this rating is acceptable in an open working area; if your floor is unusually quiet, siting it near a print room rather than beside desks is still the sensible choice.

What maintenance does it need?

Lubrication of the cutting cylinders, at the interval in the operator's manual, using shredder oil. intimus North America's warranty policy states plainly that all cross-cut shredders require this and that failure to perform it may null and void the warranty - which on a commercial model like this includes a lifetime limited warranty against cutting-cylinder fracture. Beyond that, empty the bin before it packs solid and keep the throat clear of dust.
