Description

The intimus 100 CP4 is the entry point into intimus's German-built commercial cross-cut range, and it is the model to choose when a department needs genuine P-4 destruction but does not need the larger bins of the 120 or 130. It is a 44 kg cabinet machine on castors with a 310 mm throat, a 100-litre waste bin and a 25-sheet cutting head. This SKU (224254P1) is the version supplied with the intimus automatic oiler package, which is the one distinction that matters between it and the plain 224154: lubrication of the cutting cylinders stops being something a person has to remember.

That is not a cosmetic upgrade. intimus makes lubrication a written condition of warranty coverage, and the same policy grants a lifetime limited warranty against cutting-cylinder fracture on commercial models. An automatic oiler moves the most commonly skipped maintenance task on a cross-cut shredder off the office to-do list.

Key Features

  • Supplied with the automatic oiler package — the cutting cylinders are lubricated as part of normal operation rather than by a person with an oil bottle. On a shared machine where no single user owns maintenance, this is the difference between a warranty that holds and one that does not.
  • 3.8 x 36 mm cross-cut head — 136.8 mm² particles, comfortably inside the 160 mm² ceiling DIN 66399 sets for P-4, so shredded output satisfies the level most organisations apply to routine personal and commercial data.
  • 310 mm (12.2 in) throat — takes US Letter fed either portrait or landscape, and takes A4 without folding. Legal (8.5 x 14 in) and tabloid feed lengthwise only.
  • 100-litre bin in a sealed cabinet on castors — the cabinet damps cutter noise and the castors let one person reposition the machine without a trolley.
  • i-Control smart switch with automatic start/stop — the shredder wakes on paper detection and drops back to sleep on its own, so it is not drawing standby current all afternoon.
  • Dynamic load sensor — a front indicator shows how much of the cutting head's capacity the current stack is using, which is the practical way to stop users from over-feeding.
  • Automatic reverse — backs the cutters out of a jam without the operator having to reach into the throat.
  • Handles staples, paper clips, optical media and plastic cards — media are rated for intermittent use, not continuous batches.
  • 56 dB(A) at idle — quiet enough to live in an open-plan bay rather than a separate machine room.

What's in the Box

The shredder ships assembled as a single cabinet unit on castors with its pull-out bin. intimus does not publish a component-level packing list for this SKU, so we will not invent one. Two things worth planning for: waste bags are a separate consumable and are not included in the base price, and cross-cut cutting cylinders must be lubricated in line with the operator's manual — intimus's warranty policy states in plain terms that failing to do so can void the warranty.

Who Should Buy This — and Who Should Not

The 100 CP4 suits a workgroup of roughly five to fifteen people producing a steady but not relentless stream of confidential paper: an HR office, a clinic front desk, a finance team, a branch office. Twenty-five sheets a pass at P-4 is the sweet spot where the machine is fast enough that people actually use it instead of stockpiling paper in a drawer.

Do not buy it if your real constraint is emptying frequency. The 100-litre bin is the smallest in the family; if your team is filling a bin more than once a day, the intimus 120 CP4 (120 litres) or the intimus 130 CP4 (135 litres) gives you the same cutting head and the same 25-sheet capacity in a taller cabinet, and you will spend less time carrying bags. Do not buy it if your retention policy or your client contracts specify P-5 or above — the 100 chassis is only offered as a CP4 here, and you would need the intimus 120 CP5 (1.9 x 15 mm) or the intimus 120 CP7 instead. And do not buy it as a shared floor-wide machine for fifty people; at that scale the duty cycle and bin size both become the bottleneck and a large-office or industrial machine is the honest answer.

Specifications above are taken from the intimus per-model datasheet and the intimus North America warranty policy. Where a figure is not published by intimus we have left the row out rather than estimate it.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the oiler package actually add over the standard 224154?

Mechanically the shredder is identical: the same 3.8 x 36 mm P-4 cutting head, the same 310 mm throat, the same 100-litre bin, the same 25-sheet rating. The 224254P1 is supplied with intimus's automatic oiler package so that cutting-cylinder lubrication happens as part of normal running rather than as a manual chore. On a machine shared by a whole department, that is usually worth the price difference purely as warranty insurance.

Can the intimus 100 CP4 shred staples and paper clips?

Yes. intimus lists paper with staples and paper clips as a rated material for this cutting head, so you do not need to strip documents before feeding them. Optical media, plastic cards, floppy disks and foil are also rated, but for intermittent use rather than continuous batches - feed a CD or a card between paper runs rather than putting fifty of them through back to back. Heavy binder clips, ring-binder mechanisms and laminated pouches are not rated and should be removed.

Will legal or tabloid paper fit through the throat?

The intake is 310 mm (12.2 in) wide. US Letter at 8.5 in fits in either orientation and A4 fits unfolded. Legal (8.5 x 14 in) and tabloid (11 x 17 in) will pass only if you feed them lengthwise, so the 8.5 in or 11 in edge goes in first. Anything wider than 12.2 in has to be folded, and folding doubles the effective sheet count against the 25-sheet rating, so fold sparingly on large batches.

How many people can share this shredder before it becomes a bottleneck?

intimus positions the 100 series at departments of roughly five or more users doing medium to high volume destruction. In practice a workgroup of five to fifteen is comfortable at 25 sheets a pass and a 100-litre bin. Past that the limit is usually bin emptying rather than cutting speed - if you find yourself changing bags more than once a day, the 120 CP4 at 120 litres or the 130 CP4 at 135 litres solves the same problem with the same cutting head.

Is the intimus 100 CP4 approved for classified material?

No. This is a P-4 machine and it is not on the NSA/CSS Evaluated Products List. P-4 covers data whose disclosure would have a serious effect on an organisation - typical commercial confidential and personal data - and it is what most GDPR, HIPAA and commercial retention policies call for. If you are destroying US classified national security information you need an NSA/CSS 02-01 listed shredder such as the intimus 120 CP7, which produces 0.8 x 4.5 mm particles and is on the Evaluated Products List.

How loud is it in an open-plan office?

intimus rates the 100 CP4 at 56 dB(A) at idle. That is roughly conversational level and quiet enough that the machine can sit in a working bay rather than a separate room. Under load, as with any cross-cut shredder, it will be noticeably louder than the idle figure - intimus does not publish a loaded figure, so we are not going to quote one. The sealed wooden cabinet does meaningful work here; it is the main reason cabinet shredders sound softer than open-frame ones.

Are waste bags included, and how often will I be changing them?

Bags are a separate consumable and are not included with the machine. Frequency depends entirely on your volume, but the useful arithmetic is that cross-cut waste at P-4 is fluffy: a 100-litre bin holds far less paper by weight than the same volume of unshredded documents. A department producing a couple of full copier boxes of paper a week should expect to change the bag once or twice a week, and daily changes are a signal you have outgrown the 100-litre chassis.

Does the cutting head need oiling, and what happens if I skip it?

Yes, and this one matters commercially. intimus North America's warranty policy states that all cross-cut shredders require lubrication of the cutting cylinders in accordance with the operator's manual, and that failure to perform this preventative maintenance may null and void the warranty. Given that the same policy grants a lifetime limited warranty against cutting-cylinder fracture on commercial models, skipping oiling forfeits the single most valuable part of the coverage.
