Can Dahle 20721 oil refill an EvenFlow automatic oiler?
Yes. The 12 oz bottle is a convenient size for topping up the EvenFlow Lubricator reservoir on models such as the 51422, 51522 and 51572. The oiler doses the cylinders itself, so you only need to keep the reservoir from running dry; checking it at each bag change is an easy routine.
Should I put 20721 oil in a Dahle oil-free shredder?
No. Dahle's oil-free series, the oil-free CleanTEC models, the ShredMATIC auto-feed units and the PaperSAFE range are made to run without lubricant. Oil gives them no benefit and leaves residue that collects dust. If your machine is described as oil-free, do not oil it.
Which is better value, the 20721 or the 20722?
It depends on how much oil you use. The 20721 box of six 12 oz bottles is easier to handle for one or two hand-oiled machines. The 20722 box of four 1-gallon bottles costs less per ounce for fleets and frequent reservoir refills. The oil inside is the same.
How often should a Dahle shredder be oiled with 20721?
Dahle gives no fixed schedule, since the right frequency depends on workload. On manually oiled machines, oiling at every bag change and after clearing a jam works well. Shredders that handle card, labels or heavy volumes need oil more often than ones used for light office paper.
Is vegetable oil or a spray lubricant a safe substitute for 20721?
No. Vegetable oil, motor oil and aerosol sprays are not suitable for a shredder's cutting head, and aerosols can be flammable. If you use a non-Dahle product, make sure it is a shredder oil described as low-residue, because a tacky oil traps dust.
