Can I use this oil in my other Dahle shredders?
Dahle specifies the 20719 high viscosity oil for the PowerTEC 747 CS only. It is not listed as the correct lubricant for other models, including the closely related 727 CS, so we cannot recommend it as a general substitute. For the rest of the oil-taking Dahle range use 20721 (12 oz) or 20722 (1 gallon) standard shredder oil, and check your machine's manual if you are unsure.
What is the difference between this and standard Dahle shredder oil?
Viscosity. This is a thicker formulation designed to cling to the cutting cylinders of the 747 CS, a heavy chain-driven machine that shreds optical media as well as paper. The standard 20721 and 20722 oils are lighter and formulated for Dahle's cabinet shredders. Using a lighter oil where Dahle specifies the high viscosity product means less lubricant stays where it is needed.
How do I apply it?
Dahle's method is to apply a fine stream of oil from one side of the feed opening to the other, then run the shredder in reverse for a few seconds to distribute it evenly across the cylinders. Do not pour it into the throat in one spot and do not oil while the machine is loaded with paper. Dahle does not publish a fixed interval, so oil according to the duty the machine is seeing.
How many bottles come in a box?
Six 10 oz bottles per box, and that is the only pack configuration Dahle catalogs under this part number. There is no single-bottle option, so the minimum order is the full box of six. For a 747 CS in regular service that is a reasonable holding; order the next box before the last bottle is opened so the machine is never run without lubricant while a purchase order clears.
Can I substitute a generic shredder oil?
We would not advise it here. Generic shredder oils are usually equivalent to a standard-viscosity product, and the 747 CS is specified for a high viscosity oil. Using the wrong grade will not fail immediately, but it is exactly the kind of maintenance deviation a manufacturer will point to if a cutting-cylinder claim is raised. Never use vegetable oil or aerosol lubricants in any shredder.
